Hi guys. I know back on line so soon, arent you honoured! Just got back from an amazing 3 days in the Masai Mara! Bumped into Mwangi on my first day getting off another overland truck (he was my tour leader last year for those of you that don't know), so caught up with him that night over a few vodkas!
The next day was a full game drive in the Mara. Normally these can get a bit boring after a few hours if you dont see anything but we saw loads so the day just flew by! The best bit was getting about a metre away from a pride of 7 lions and also just as close to 3 cheetahs! I have some amazing photos, i will try and get them online at some point!
We also visited the Mara river and there were tonnes and tonnes of hippos! At one point I think we got a bit too close and they looked like they were going to charge us! that was a bit scary as hippos kill more humans in Africa than anything else!
We also saw: Zebra, Hartebeest, Wildebeest, Buffalo, Impala, Crocodile, Jackals, Hyena, Gazelles, Elephant, Giraffe, Ostrich, Topi and Serval (to name a few)!
After the game drive we visited a Masai village. They were very similar to the Samburu tribe we saw in Northern Kenya (they are all Mar people). However, one of their biggest traditions is for the buys to go and live in the bush for 5years, to prove their manhood, around the age of 15! They also have to kill a lion in this time! This is how they become Masai Warriors!
Back in Nairobi now for my pre-departure meeting for my next overland! Then back off to the Masai Mara tomorrow (I can't get enough!)
Will be in touch soon
P.S: thanks for all my messages, its nice to log on and imagine you all at work, he he!
