Hi Guys,
I have been in Thailand for over a week now and feels like longer - we haven't stopped - have done so many things.
Arrived in Bangkok early Monday morning, flights were all ok and on time which was a good start, so decided to go to the hotel and check-in.When that was completed went out to explore the surrounding area so could get an idea on where we were staying. We got a tuk tuk around the city, we saw City Pier Shrine, English Nations buildings, Pho Sua Shrine, National Museum, Black Budda, Tall Budda, Good Luck Budda. A number of the temples are situated in the middle of schools - the children are used to tourists walking through the schools to get to the temples - it was strange for us to see as that would not be allowed at home.
On the second day we walked to the grand palace to have a look and then were told by a number of locals that it was shut (later to find out that it is actually open all day - this was just a scam for tourists) but in the process found that we could get a long tail boat up the river - so decided to do that instead. We got off the long tail boat at the Grand Palace stop and wondered down to that area, going into the market for lunch. We ended up going to the Emerald Budda and not actually making it to the Grand Palace on time but that was ok as we had a number of more days in Bangkok to explore.
Today we have booked a tour that goes to the Floating Market with a boat trip through the market - that was an interesting experience - the market stall holders pull the boat to their stall if you even look at something - so looking around and taking photos was interesting. We then got a long tail boat down the river, then to the World War Two Cemetary and on to the Jeath War Museum. We then arrived at the Bridge over the River Kwahi - we walked over this bridge and it also had a train running accross which you had to move out of the way of. The last stop of teh afternoon was The Tiger Temple - this is where the Monks look after the tigers. We got to touch the tigers and have our photos taken with them.
We then managed to make it to the Grand Palace - to get into the Grand Palace you have to have trousers on and cover your arms/shoulders - this made it very warm walking around. Inside the Grand Palace was realy nice and there was so much to see. We also went to see Wat Pho which is massive Budda which is lying down.
Thats all for Bangkok for now, off to Chiang Mai so will update when I get back.
