We arrived in Singapore and decided to explore the city as we had a number of mixed reviews from different people about what there was to do in Singapore, so we thought we would go and find out for ourselves. Th efirst afternoon we ventured down to Orchard Road which is the shopping district - much to the guys I was with dislike! We found the tourist information centre and next door was a place called 'Duck and Hippo' - wondering what this was we went to have a look and its actually a tour company.
So been in this tour company office we decied to have a look at what there was to do for the next few days, we found a tour ticket that seemed to do just about everything and it was going to be a challenge and a busy couple of days to fit everything in but we all decided to go for it anyway.
That night we went down to Raffles and had a Singapore Sling (it has to be done when you are in Singapore), there was a live band on which was nice and worth paying the high prices for the drinks!
The next day we did a duck tour of the city, this involved a tour of the river area and then the bus/boat going into the water to give you a tour on the river. Was interesting to see the views from either side. Then next over to Sentosa Island - I had been here a few years ago but it is now really built up so much more there than I remember. We spent the day on the island looking at all the attractions and going on cable cars. On the island at night they have a light and sound show which I wanted to see and the other guys said they would come with me - within the first few minute everyone of them gave me a look as if to say what have you brought me here for (granted the start of the show was really made for kidds) but by the middle of the show they relaised why we had gone - the lights and effects used were amazing. The guys afterwards said that the effects were the best they had seen. The night we dorve down Orchard Road and went to the biggest street market in Singapore.
Next day we did a few bus tours of the city which meant we saw all the different areas and where the different cultures lives i.e. little india and chinatown. This was interesting to see and get an idea on how differnt lifestyles live in such a small space. Chinatown was interesting as it was still the end of Chinese New Year so there was still celebrations going on and decorations there. We went for a final meal with Eddy and Chris - the guys that we had spent the last 4 weeks with, it was strange thinking that we wouldn't be travelling with them again. The tour through Asia had come to an end and the new journey through Australia was about to begin off to Cairns we would be travelling tomorrow.
