Luke woke us up at 7.30 so we could start cooking and eating our onion and tomato scrambled eggs. Once camp was clean, we left to go to champagne pools- so named because when the waves lap over the rocks, it makes the water fizz. Luke advised us not to stand on the rocks as it sweeps over a lot of people off their feet, so what was the first thing the Irish lads did? Scott got scraped quite badly on his back from it- it looked really raw and painful. Luke picked up a crab and got it to clamp Gerard's finger (A Bristolian).
Next stop was Indian Head- a cliff you can look at over the sea. People spotted dolphins and turtles but I was very unobservant. Apparently some aboriginals stole a goat and a sheep so two white policemen gathered all the women, children and elders up there whilst the men were hunting and forced them to walk to their deaths. I found it amusing that despite only just scraping his back, Scott was hanging over the edge being held by the ankles by Frankie to get a good photo.
We had lunch back at camp. Something went wrong in our eskie so it was really watery which meant the cheese was floating around in murky water.
We had driven passed the Maheno shipwreck, but this afternoon we actually stopped for a photo, then went to Eli creek. I thought I was too cold to go in, but then Sandra- a German girl- persuaded me to float down with her, which I'm glad about as it was actually really fun- like a river rapids slide but in real life!
Because we got all that done and out the way, Luke took us to another lake and showed us some turtles. He lured them in with bread but apparently that's illegal. On the drive there he pulled us over to show us how to collect pippies (mussels). If you dig when you see a raised bit in the sand then they're about 10 cm down. We chucked them on the sand to have a race- the winner was the one whose pippie dug themselves down into the sand the quickest. Both mine and Alice's weren't very lively- they didn't stick their tongues out at all. Roma cooked them up in some beer and herbs- it reminded me of being in Belgium and eating them. I much preferred Alice's veggie burgers to our steaks- I should have put 'no beef' down as a dietary requirement!
Winki's was less busy than last night but I enjoyed Gerard's drum n bass music!
