We left the strip and headed inland to see some more animals. We passed through a huge rubber tree forest with little boys trying to sell bouncy balls made from stolen rubber! We also had to avoid several suicidal chickens in the way ... "why did the chicken cross the road?" .... We later arrived at Mvu camp in the elephant marshes part of the Nyika national park. This was another open camp with spectacular views. We stayed in another straw hut oposite an open marsh area (or would be if it wasn't the dry season) You could see hippos in the distance and the baboons were all around. There was also a very noisey woodpecker with a red head who was trying to make his house in the tree directly above us. He sounded like someone pinging one of those door stop springs, a vibrating noise rather than a banging noise!! (my descriptive english is great huh!) We did a couple of game drives (J.P driving over all the bumps and me leaning out of the window telling him to stop every five minutes to take photos!!!) Saw lots of spring bok, kudu and monkeys and plenty of hippos in the water. But there were loads of flys that kept flying in the windows and biting us! not fun! On the way back to the camp we spotted a hippo in the bushes unfortunately that put us between him and the watewr ... a no no in the sense that he was likely to attack us!!! oooppps oh well a sharp reverse and we waited until he had wandered off!!!
Back at the camp as the sun was setting more of the animals came out. On both the nights we stayed there were plenty of elephants and baboons around us. I even had to share my shower with a frog! On the last night i was just chopping the veggies for dinner (Proper cooking aswell!!!) It was almost dark and apart from the fire, pitch black! We could hear this munching noise ... So we went to look with the torches and there was a hippo just across the marsh eating his dinner. At night they all get out of the water, split up and wander round all night eating! After a while there were more noises and the spingbok had come to the bushes the other side to eat. Then a bit later we could hear more noise but alot louder. There were three elephants on the other side of us now eating in the trees. (between us and the path to the toilets!!!) Lets just say I was a little nervous making that journey but all was well, it was great seeing all the animals so close up! (Pictures to follow I have a new memory stick that works but have to wait to download on the lap top first! sorry).
