The Landy is again fixed! so we stayed one more night in Maun with a quick restock for 3 days in the bush! and headed to see more animals. After another terrible sand road where we met another English landy coming the otherway! (Sa and Oz couple this time!), we spent three nights in the Moremi National Park in the Delta, Two nights at a place called Xakanaxa (said kak a nak er) and one night at third bridge!
On our first game drive J.P spotted a lazy male lion lying on its back feet in the air generally sunbathing! We also saw asorted dear (J.P things I'm very "english" to call them that!) Elephants and zebra. and just as the sun was setting we came round a corner to find another male lion stood in a tree! He was on a more or less horizontal branch and looked particularly uncomfortable. He spent about 20 minutes stepping forward and backward trying to find a way to either turn round or jump off. If we could have videoed it and sped it up it would have looked like he was doing the hokey cokey! Finaly he reversed a few steps turned round then jumped down and casually walked off (I think he was embarrassed as there were quite a crowd of vehicles by this time!). We then nearly ran over a female lion laying in the middle of the road!
We found out why all the lions were hanging around the next morning ...Very near the first campsite was another dead elephant, (Sorry Amy) who was being eaten happily by a pride of lions. We get the impression that it was their "Kill". We have some fantastic photos of 6 females from the first day and 4 and 2 males from the second day! One of the lions was so protective of her kill that every time she went to lay down after eating and the vultures in the trees came to have a go at the carcus she got back up again and ran at them to scare them away! The photos (When I post them) are dedicated to J.D from Tolworth. Who decided when he saw the colour of the Landy that it was yum yum orange ... apparently he thinks this is the lions favourite colour and they may eat us! Well he was right in one respect, they did like the colour so much so that after about 10 minutes of watching them sleep after their big breakfast they got up individually and kept walking round us to sleep on the other side of us about 5 meters away! Then one of the girls came and sat by the drivers door! so close J.P could have patted her on the head! and we couldn't drive off as her tail was under the front wheels! So we just sat there takng great photos until they got bored and wandered off to lay in the shade!
On the second night we had a visit from some spotted hyenas, they were patrolling the camp screaching at each other! They were huge about the size of a big dog.
We also saw some giraffe, elle, bush buck and water buck and a few zebra and worthog, plenty of monkeys and baboons including some brand new babies (so sweet) and a few large crocks in the river (not sweet).
After three great days of bush camping and safari drives we had to head back to Maun! On the road out J.P rescued a chamelion from the middle of the road, who happily changed to orange when we put him on the bonnet!! before re-locating him to the trees on the other side of the road!
