G'day and welcome to the blog from the middle of nowhere.
Well just to say this could be the penultimate blog from on the road as after we're back from the big red rock, its singapore then home and we might as well use the free internet back in England. Before i get sentimental over the good times i might as well write update you on what's been happening since we last spoke!
Well magnetic island was technically a mooching spot for the east coast. I suffering from a near death experience of a chest infection could not make it past the hostel reception apart from once to get provisions for the next few days. Price however took it upon himself to go out riding on a horse through bush and then taking the water into the clear water of a bay and swim with his horse. Apparantly his horse was huge and looking at the photos his head was about even with the back of the horse so you can imagine the size of it! Had a quiet evening the first night on magnetic just chatting till about 12ish with friends before bed called. The horse riding and general nothingness took place the next day. That evening was a bit of a sad one as our friends which we had been travelling with since about Sydney were carrying on up the coast and we still had another day in Magnetic. Bit of a late night for both of us due to drinking games with goon, never a good idea!
Our last day on Magnetic was another day of nothing, managed to sleep for a long time before going to sit around and read. I managed to finish two books on this day so you can see how much we were doing! Price was still reading harry potter with his hat, sticking with the bet. For those of you that don't know when we were in airlie beach and bought the final chapter of the potter series, they gave us a hat. This hat was now part of a bet which meant that everytime price read even a few words or pages, he had to wear the hat! Quite good fun when you're sitting in the middle of a public place. Anyway the last evening was spent eating spag bol from a can (rather good) and talking to our friend Joost before an early night
Leaving magnetic at some stupid time in the morning we travelled our way up to Mission Beach. We were supposed to be staying in mission beach but when we pulled in and all there was was a newsagents, we pleaded with the driver to let us stay. Thankfully she did so our journey up to cairns continued. Stopping for a while at a crocodile farm i have never feared for my life so much! After mad mike jumped on the bus and whipped a baby croc from his shorts to scare people at the front of the bus, we had a brief tour of the croc farm (over 5 1/2 thousand crocs) and fed some kangaroos. Managed to get chased by an emu before it came to feeding time. Mad Mike would walk (or should i say limp) up to these crocs and then hit them in the head with a rake till they were quite annoyed. Then he'd taunt them with food until they nearly bit his arm off. All good fun! And he sat on the biggest croc in captivity (5 1/2 metres) and hit it a couple of times for good measure. He was mental!? After feeding time we got to hold a baby croc and then some snakes. Price did his steve irwin impression and held everything he could. We then got the option of being bitten by a snake. Price decided to try it so put his hand in the cage and when the snake didn't go for his finger because he was only tapping it on the head, one of the guides grabbed Price's arm and started whacking the snake. Well as you can imagine the snake eventually bit him and Price got a free coke! Finished off our mad two hours with a crocodile satay on a stick, suprisingly nice before carrying on up the coast to cairns. As we arrived a day earlier then expected in cairns all our friends were still there so after a brilliant rump steak for $6.50, we danced the night away till a wedges hunt took place at 3 in the morning!
The next day was a vicious hangover for me (combined with the chest thing) so we did nothing. Price continued with his potter reading and i became an AFL expert, watching two very exciting games. Wasn't the most sure what was happening but soon started to understand the organised chaos that is Aussie Rules. A quiet night in and an earlyish bed time.
Today we decided to see Cairns so walked our way into the city centre and did a bit of shopping. Saw the simpson's movie at 4.30ish which wasn't as good as expected but still quite funny. Got back to find some guy in the hostel with all the family guy episodes so spent the next couple of hours in front of the tv. Finished up all our food (pickle sandwiches......) and then watched a double gray's anatomy. Price made a friend in so much as a mouse ran over his foot, however no one else saw this mouse.......but anyway! Another earlyish ngiht as we had to be up early for the flight.
Caught the airport shuttle into Cairns airport and then our two hour flight over to alice springs. After checking into our hostel and a bit of sunbathing we came to this internet cafe so here we are! All caught up. Alice springs is the middle of nowhere but its still quite cool, leaving at 5.50 tomorrow to see a big red rock and then some other stuff before flying over to singapore on the 3rd!
Hope you are all well and we shall be seeing you in about a week!? AH!
