In the morning of friday we took a quick breakfast in the hotel bar and then went to buy two ceramic pieces that we liked the best from the day before. We packed our things in the car and went to Orvieto where we had problems finding parking and a hotel so we decided to park the car in a parking house for a few hours and then continue to find a hotel somewhere else. In Orvieto we took a tour in the center looking at the very famous and very spectacular church. For lunch we stopped in an Alimentari (food shop) to buy sandwiches. You choose the bread and if u want some kind of salami, prosciutto or cheese and they cut it for you and prepare the sandwich. The old woman behind the counter in this shop didn't like the idea of mixing cheese and meat but said that young kids today apparently like to mix, also when it comes to sex...she pointed out clearly that she only had sex with her husband. Haha! Since it was pretty cold we decied to continue towards Pineza in the hope for better weather. Pienza turned out to be my favourite town during the whole trip. Up on a hill overlooking the Orcia Valley this town is the most beautiful place to be. The first day we walked around in the small alleys, looking in shops and various art galleries. We also found a super nice hotel just behind the main street in one of the many little alleyways. Beside the location, the room was romantic, pretty and had everythung you need for a 3 days stay, plus the garden hidden from the busy tourist area was perfect for a quite dinner. We also went out on the "passeggiata" which is the walk around the toen where you find the best views over Val d´orcia. The second day of our stay we decided to walk from Pienza to the closes town called San Quirico. We walked for 2 hours through the valley without seeing a single person. Breathtaking! Also San Quirico was a really nice town, smaller than Pienza but very charismatic. We took our picinc sandwiches on a bench on the main square and watched the people go by. After lunch we took a well needed break/nap in the shadow before taking the bus back to Pienza. The third and final day in Pienza we took the car to Siena not far away. Siena is known to be one of the most beautifuls cities in the world, and after just spending a day there I can´t disagree. The main square shaped like a shell and the very beautiful palazzo you can easily spend an hour lying on the piazza eating an ice cream. (Which we also did) Beside the palazzo the cathedral is a master piece in architecture and art. That white church against the veery blue sky made for some great pictures. We bought a ticket that let us visit the church, the baptistery, the crypt and going up to the highest point of the church looking down on Siena. Not a bad view! Around 6 o´clock pm we went back over the hills and through the valley towards Pienza wittnesing the sunset coloring the trees and the fields in a warm orange color. There are no words...
