Hey All,
Today we visited the Whitsunday Islands and they were AMAZING!! It was well worth the 14 hours it took to get up here!! They are literally paradise, we've never seen whiter sand or sea as blue!! We had planned on sailing over there on a yacht but it was fully booked, we ended up going over on a big banana speed boat - turned out to be better as we had longer on the beaches. First we snorkelled around some of the Islands, which is on the edge of the Great Barrier Reef - we saw fish, coral but no sharks!! Luckily!! We didn't dive because its only about 6 metres of water (and i'm actually not allowed to dive!!). I made a fuss about jumping off the boat to the water so the guys running it thought it was funny to push me in and throw fish food at me to make all the fish come around me!! Was scary, especially as there was a metre long green fish swimming around!! Dave didn't actually care because he was off looking at coral!! After this the boat went around to Whitehaven beach - which is the white sand beach!! The sand is so fine you can clean your jewellery with it and its good to exfoliate your skin (even better than the mud in La Manga!! haha), the best bit is its not hot to walk on!! We had a buffet lunch on the beach then went on a bush walk up to the Look out point, this is where they take all the postcard pictures and we got a few!! The views are spectacular (trying to think of big words to describe it!!). After taking a slow stroll back we realised the boat was on its way out of the bay!! It had to come back and get us, v. embarrasing!! On the journey back to shore the guys on the boat decided to show us what it could do!! They did massive doughnuts (which is where they spin the boat around really fast), was well funny!! Like being on a rollercoaster but a bit scarier because you could fall in the sea!! The only thing about the beaches was that you couldn't swim in the water without stinger suits (like wet suits but cover your whole body) as there are loads of box jellyfish and portugese man of war that can kill you with one sting!!
Tomorrow we leave for Rockhampton then onto Hervey Bay to go to Fraser Island, which is the biggest sand island in the world (75km long). Its a long old drive back though - especially as our van is drinking oil like petrol!! We've got to swap it when we get back to Brisbane!! Its turned into a bit of a tourist attraction, a few people have had there pictures taken with it!! And everyone thinks we chose to have Cocaine written up the side!!
We will def get the pictures on ASAP!! And write from Harvey Bay!
Hope your all well
Love Lou & Dave xxx
