Kya Travels
This morning we got woken up very early when our room mates were checking out and banging their stuff around the room, but when they left we went back to sleep. Then got woken up again by the receptionist telling us we had to change rooms. We had booked an extra night separately, and apparently the guy that booked it for us didn't assign us a room, and this one was booked out. She said she'd see what she could do, then came back up shortly and said she'd sorted it out and we could stay in the room, so we went back to sleep. When I woke up again much later, Darren was playing guitar again, jamming out his new song, and doing some recordings. When he was done we got ready then headed out and walked into town. We walked down to a restaurant called Mexico to Rome where we went in for a €10 lunch deal, of a starter, main and glass of wine, so I got a delicious quesadilla and veggie burger and Darren got some chilli con carne and a steak sandwich. When we'd finished we headed back out into the cold and browsed through a souvenir shop then went down to the Old Storehouse where an Irish guy was playing some acoustic traditional music. We shared a Guinness and watched the music a bit, while chatting to the bar staff. After a few songs the musician announced, "I'm going to take a 5 minute break for 10 minutes, I'll be back in half an hour", then left the stage. Hilarious. We had a chat to him on his break, and he told us about his friends band in Melbourne, Bad Penguin who we will have to check out sometime. He went up for another set and we even got some requests in before he finished his set. When he finished we headed off and stopped by a traditional sweets shop for some Irish lollies, then stopped at the supermarket for some fruit and snacks for tomorrow's bus trip then went back to the hostel to play some guitar and get a snooze in. A bit later after we woke up and hung out for a while, we headed down to the Porterhouse where we shared a drink and watched Sliotar play again. They had a replacement guitarist this time who was really cool and played some awesome rhythmic stuff which really gave a cool lift to the band. We topped up our glass a few times with some sneaky beers we'd brought in, then when they had finished we headed down the street, and got a card for a drink and shot at a pub called Trinity Bar, so we headed up there and Darren had a drink and we watched the band there who were playing acoustic covers, in a rocky kind of style. One guy was playing a cajon, which gave it a very cool sound. We watched them and sang along a bit until we'd finished our drink then headed off back to the Old Storehouse where a duo were doing more pop style covers. We only had enough money left for a half pint which was disappointingly small. I don't know how we're gonna go back to pots when we get home! We watched the band play there for a little while before we headed home. We had a cuppa and a chat with an American girl who had gotten caught in a two hour conversation with a very strange older lady that was staying at the hostel, so the girl was very glad for an excuse to get away! While the three of us had a cuppa together, we watched as the lady got her box of goodies down and proceeded to drink from her bottles of vinegar and soy sauce... Not even joking. The poor lady definitely had some mental health issues! After a while, we finished our cuppas, said goodnight to our friends and went to bed.
