Kya Travels
After an epic sleep in today, I got up and got ready then went to meet Darren in the common room where he was watching some modern family on the TV. After a few episodes it finished and he got the guitar out while I fell back asleep on the couch for a bit. After a little snooze there, we went back up to the room where Darren took to the bathroom to record some new song ideas and I got into bed for yet another snooze, and Darren went for a snooze too when he was done. When we both woke up, we got ready and headed out into the cold and rainy streets to find some food. Being Boxing Day (or St. Stephen's Day here) there was still quite a lot of places shut, so we walked around trying to find a place with traditional Irish food for dinner. We walked for a while, and finally found a place that was open, so we went to sit down, then we were told that the kitchen was closed, so we headed back out. We walked down to another pub called Bad Bob's, and Darren got a Guinness and we got a table. There were a group of people on the next table who were quite drunk, and playing the coaster flip game. They kept coming to sneak coasters off our table and even took the ones from under our glasses! We got some traditional Irish meals, Darren got an Irish stew, with a massive lamb shank in the middle, and I got a farmers board, which was an assortment of toasted breads, relish, onions and a bunch of different Irish cheeses. Yummy! After dinner we headed out to find somewhere else to get a drink. There were some girls on the street giving out vouchers for a drink and a shot for €5, so we went up to that bar, Mezz, but when we went in, we weren't really feeling it, and it was packed with a live blues band, but without the Irish vibe we were looking for. So we left again and went down to Quays for a drink where there was a duo doing live acoustic songs. The place was packed but we found a spot up the back where we chatted to some locals for a bit, then saw a couple of guys from our hostel, who we hung out with for a bit as well, then after some music, dancing and drinks we left and headed back to the hostel and went to hang out in the common room. We got out our other bottle of wine which we shared while watching another of Vince Vaughan's Christmas movies that I can't remember the name of. When it finished, (and the wine was finished too) we made ourselves a cuppa which we drank while chatting to the Americans we'd met the night before, then headed off and went back to bed.
