Brighton is such a funky place!! My sister has lived here for a few years now and seeing as she was 5months pregnant I thought I should finally visit her!! First impressions were of a funky seaside place, very diverse and individual - I loved it! The weather was gorgeous and Lou's belly was HUGE, she took me on a brief tour through some of the shopping lanes and along part of the beach before before heading to her new house and making me lovely dinner!
The next day we went to the 'lanes' which are lanes (obviously) of really individual shops bursting with character - its all wonderfully artistic and each shop is themed inside and out. Its gotta be a collectors paradise, Lou said theres everything from button shops to The Lanes Armoury, I spent ages just taking pictures of the colourful shop fronts and then the many walls of graffiti down the sides of buildings - it was awesome! I'm not totally sure if they're allowed to do it but there's whole walls of amazing graffiti art, I was walking behind this guy and we were both stopping to take photographs as we got to each new wall!
Walking around in the sunshine we went to the Royal Pavillion (Brighton Pavillion) which was completely unexpected and out of place although beautiful! It's an Indian style building which is a strange sight by the seaside in england but its majestic and imppressive, it was frustrating I couldn't fit the whole thing in one picture - I need a wider lens on my camera! I think you can go inside it which we didn't do - but it's worth a visit and if the weather's good its a nice quiet place to chill out!
I think we went down to the beach next - my memories have faded already! It's a lively place - lots of groups of friends hanging out, volleyball and basketball courts along the beach front, fairground rides on the pier - it was like I imagine beaches in America although Brighton is all shingle. The burnt down pier a little way up from the active one is pretty cool too - I chilled out there for a while later on taking photos, there was a guy behind me tight rope walking on a wire tied between two posts of the old pier, I later tripped up on part of the old structure - bit silly!
Me and Lou had a lovely vegan indian buffet - I tried lots of different dishes and there was only one that I didn't like - luckily I didn't put much on my plate coz it was MANK! But the rest was lovely and it was really cheap! I must learn not to have coke with indian food though - doesn't taste good together!!
Later on Crispin (Lou's husband) came to meet us and we walked along the beach, had a nose around the pier although the rides were closed which was a shame because there was an awesome looking one I wanted to go on! It was a kind of axle and as it swung backwards the seats would be hanging over the edge of the pier and over the sea - how scary but awesome! We had chips and I messed around on the old posts of the burnt pier before heading home to the warm so Lou could rest!
Anyway - Brighton - really cool place to hang out and have a laugh, can't wait to go back sometime soon!
