So I have successfully survived my first week in Florence! And it already feels like home. My nights have consisted of spending time with my 6 amazing roommates and new friends, learning how to cook, crazy nights out and countless laughs.
I only have classes Monday-Wednesday and I'm taking basic Italian, trend forecasting, art history, visual merchandising, and food of italy. The classes here are nothing like my classes back at Iowa State. My largest class has 20 people and my smallest class has 7. Yes, that is the number SEVEN. The rest of my classes have around 10-12 people. It's intimidating to say the least, but it's not as bad as I thought it would be. My favorite class is obviously my food of Italy class. I have it every Monday for 2 and a half hours and we just cook the whole time and then get to eat at the end. Who wouldn't want that? The last time I took a foreign language class was my junior year of high school, so trying to get back into the swing of learning a new language is tough but Italian is pretty fun! (And similar to spanish)
Last Friday all of us roommates decided to take a day trip to Pisa to see the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa! After a good 45 minutes of train station madness and confusion, we found our terminal, only to see that our train was just departing...so we missed it. But luckily you can use your tickets here for other departure times so we just got on the next train 30 minutes later with ease! In Pisa all there is to see is the tower. Seriously. But it was very pretty and I'm glad I had the chance to visit Pisa!
Yesterday the roommates and I celebrated the Super Bowl good old American style! We made a veggie tray, pizza bites, quesadillas, trail mix, beer, and ice cream! Kate and I miserably failed at trying to make chips and queso...turns out that provolone cheese doesn't melt? Oh well, now we know!
