Well, we finally got bad weather. It was bound to happen eventually. Rain, wind, and dropping temps made for a long morning to see Notre Dame. We decided to wait to go to Montmarte until we get back from Amsterdam (keeping our fingers crossed for sunny weather), and Courtney and I are waiting to catch our train this evening.
Notre Dame was beautiful, and there was a group of singers inside that were amazing. Got some good pics despite the rain. Ate lunch in a French cafe and had a couple of good sandwiches.
Today is D-Day (and I am sure that many of you already knew that, but Courtney and I have already forgotten the concept of days and dates); Barack Obama is at Normandy with other representatives from Allied countries paying tribute to fallen soldiers. We have watched some of the ceremony on TV at our hostel.
Yesterday when we were at the Army Museum we saw the French president in the courtyard leading a ceremony for U.S. Veterans. I can't believe that our trip to Paris coincided with the French Open and WWII tributes. We felt very special that we saw the French president (FYI - much less security surrounding him than Obama and other U.S. presidents, wonder why that is?) and that President Obama stayed at a hotel near the Army museum. Silly girls!...
I will post some additional pics soon and share stories from Amsterdam. Keep your fingers crossed for us, especially since we are staying in a room with 10 other people at a hostel called "The Bulldog" in the heart of the Red Light District! Oh my, oh my.
Until next time....
