A Run of Bad Luck
The rest of my week has just been one big run of bad luck (…I guess that blessing didn’t work out as they’d planned?). My camera, of course, was a huge bummer. I had thought it would be safer in the pocket of my jacket in the coat check than in my back pocket—apparently I was wrong. The worst part was that I didn’t have all of my photos backed up. The jump drive I had put all of the photos on had recently gotten a virus from using it at an internet café which deleted all the photos. So the only photos I have from the entire trip are those from Urubamba and Machu Picchu that I had uploaded onto Facebook just the day before.
The next day, my stomach hurt bad enough that I wasn’t able to eat lunch and, of course, if I didn’t eat lunch my mama here was not about to let me go back to class. So I slept away the rest of the afternoon and the majority of the evening, though I was up to dinner later. I felt a lot better the next day. My stomach still hurt but not much and the day went by without a hitch. The next morning (Friday) I still felt pretty good, so I walked to class with Jenny. By the middle of our class with Irma, though, my stomach was in knots and I had to leave the class for a good chunk of time. I had a chat with Christina, another SIT employee and headed home. I spent the entire rest of the day in bed with the chills and cold sweats, being force-fed this certain sort of tea. Worst day in Cusco yet. The absolute worst part of it was trying to explain what was wrong in Spanish… very annoying and I’m not exactly a patient person when I don’t feel well.
Come to find out later, my phone was missing. Either it had been stolen or I had lost it somewhere. I have a feeling that I just wasn’t thinking very clearly on the way back to the house and left it in the taxi or something. I tried calling it but it had already been turned off—it had a full charge so this is a pretty good sign that it had been taken. A great way to finish the week. No camera, no phone and sick. Fantastic.
