So far, so good!My semester abroad has finally begun and has had a great beginning so far - not a single problem to speak of (knock on wood…). My day began at 5:00 am, much earlier than I would've liked!I set off from Denver, said goodbye to Mom and Dad before entering Terminal A and beginning my several month adventure.I had a three hour layover in Houston, grabbed some Panda Express as my last meal in the States and finally set out for Peru around 4:00 in the afternoon. The flight to Lima was almost nonstop turbulence but nothing major - just enough to keep me awake, though that was a combination of turbulence and the Brit snoring in the seat next to me…
I've been in Lima for a few hours now.It took over an hour to get through customs checks and gather my baggage—seemed like forever!By the time I hit the other side of these, though, I realized I hadn't printed off the information on where to meet the rest of the group—so far the only problem of the day and a very minor one at that since I found a Starbucks with free WiFi.So not only have I been able to assure the fam that I've made it one piece and update you all, but I'm also now caffeinated to the point of shaking. J YAY for coffee!Considering I'm writing this at approximately 3:00 am I'd say I'm not doing too badly. Also, I was able to meet a few Peruvian students here in Starbucks—all engineering students, one of whom was just leaving to start her semester at Stanford.
Otherwise, the airport has been very entertaining.I've seen a random dog running through the waiting area, watched five policia nacional chat for over a half an hour, little Asian ladies desperately searching for their disease-repelling face masks, a couple kids touching the floor and then licking their fingers and then repeating the process (as if to make up for the face masks they've gone looking for the diseases), making new friends and mentally playing "Find the American students…" in hopes that I'll figure out who is in my group before the actual 6:00 am meeting time.
Well, that's all for now! I need to wander to stay awake for the next few hours… There is a lot coming up though!Within the next 24 hours I will have met my group, flown to Cuzco and traveled to Machu Picchu.More to come soon! Hope all is well!
