The Most Amazing Dinner of my LIFE
The majority of my first full day back from the selva was pretty dull. I spent my morning avoiding writing my first essay for Irma’s class. I read ahead in my seminar class (yea, that’s how desperately I wanted to avoid writing this paper) and eventually went to el Molino to purchase some quality pens and pirated DVDs. Then lunch with the perfam and off to meet Meredith at a little British pub to quit procrastinating. I spent a good four hours in the writing process, writing, jotting notes and munching on toast and hummus. The snack, as it turned out, was an absolute bad idea. Meredith and I had planned to go out for dinner at one of her favorite restaurants called Cicciolina’s from the summer before that she spent in Peru.
We started the most amazing dinner ever with a glass of white wine and the most delicious Caesar salad I’ve ever had (mostly because there were huge slices of avocado and sweet slices of dried tomato. NOM NOM NOM. Then we switched it up for a glass of red wine and another beautiful plate of food (as if my stomach could hold any more…). My main course was a filet of alpaca with more dried tomatoes and some crispy fried yucca. The alpaca was aaahhhhhh-mazing in a four pepper cream sauce and I could not get enough! I cleaned my plate every single time a new one was set in front of me. By the time I tried to stand up to leave I was almost incapable of doing so. Meredith and I nearly had to roll ourselves out of the restaurant and down the street to find a cab home. The restaurant was in a major déjà vu area of Cusco, meaning I’m almost positive I ate at the neighboring restaurant with the family two years back.
Anyway, it ended up being the most painful evening of my time here in Cusco. My stomach hates me right now. Really. My stomach was practically begging me to puke a little and make space for all of the food I put in there earlier. All that being said, I’m off to sleep off my food coma. Word to the wise though, go eat at Cicciolina’s if you’re ever in Cusco. Just make sure to save enough room in your belly for the tasty goodness.
