After appreciating Katie's blog of the Footloose tour for this past year, I figured a blog of my time in Alaska would be the best way to keep people updated about the show and the adventures during this coming summer.
I spent the beginning of this year performing in All Shook Up at Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre in Ft. Myers, FL. I had an amazing time, both performing in the show and spending some time exploring Florida. Highlights of the All Shook Up run include a wild air boat ride in the everglades where we met an all too friendly alligator we lovingly referred to as Alfie, a girls weekend away on Key Largo, complete with a gulf view from our window, a private beach, my first snorkeling experience, and yummy stone crab, and time spent at both Ft. Myers and Sanibel beaches. All in all, I made some amazing friends and truly enjoyed both performing and playing in Florida.
We closed All Shook Up the day before Easter, so I spent much of my holiday traveling home to NYC. However, before I left, a group of us had a lovely Easter brunch at Mimi's Cafe. My time in NY last week was really great! I spent most of my time running errands, visiting (eating) with friends, and hanging out with Devin and Anthony. I had forgotten how much I love NY in the spring, and was glad to have a beautiful afternoon in the park before I left.
This week I'm with Mom, Dad, Grandma and Grandpa in Cleveland. We had a lovely Easter dinner Sunday to make up for the one I missed. Mom and I have been running around a ton to finish all the errands I need to do before I head to AK. I;m looking forward to going Sanctuary farm tomorrow, Agility with Mom and Laurel Thursday and spending time with Faith and the kids Saturday.
OK, so here's what I've gathered about Alaska and my job so far. The show is The Days of '98 Show, in Skagway, AK. Skagway is about 100 miles from Juneau, and literally no roads lead there. You have to take a prop plane or the ferry to get there; I'm opting for the water route. The population of Skagway blossoms from a mere 700 in the winter to around 1800 in the summer months. The show is aimed at disembarked cruise passengers and looks like a lot of fun. Highlights include "I Don't Care" made famous by Judy Garland and the cancan. Skagway is right at the border of British Columbia and the Yukon Territory in Canada, so I've made sure to bring my passport.
This summer, I really want to take advantage of my time up North. I'm looking forward to riding the White Pass & Yukon Route Railway, Dogsledding on a glacier, and maybe even flying up to Danali to visit my friend Jacqui.
My Alaskan adventure fast approaches. I fly to Juneau this Sunday, a 14.5 hour trip, and then catch a 6:30 ferry to Skagway. I can't wait to see all of the natural beauty and will be sure to post pictures asap.
