Hello again from Argentina!!
So heres my blog for the amazing place that is Buenos Aries....!!
Have to say bar the craziness of carnival this may be my favorite place yet....i dunno its a toughy between here and rio!!!
Im going to do it in 3 parts, as its been ages since I wrote one so its going to be a biggy so going to try and split it up but all on one big blog!
PART 1 - Millhouse Avenue Hostel.
Soooooooo!
Arrived here off the first class bus of amazement and just kinda chilled out to regain our general being in the new swanky hostel! Then......for sians amazment and much pent up excitment we went to a kosher maccy dee´s!!!!! Of which she scoffed a very impressive 3 meals down in about 10 minutes....go sian. That pretty much sums up that day!!
Saturday we went to Ricoletta...a stunning market about a hours walk away from the hostel where we found some pretty cool stuff which i cant mention as they are presents and i expect the recipiant will be reading this!!! so yes...massive MASSIVE cool market with lots of cool stuff and street performers! After milling about we sat down on the grass then this local string quartet got going and drew quite a crowd so we sat for about 2 hours just listening to them which was so lovely, lorna bought there cd too which i shall be copying!!! Such a nice afternoon - and we left just as it strated to rain. Then it POURED!!! We couldnt get a cab home cos it was shabbat for Sian so we had no choice than to walk an hours walk back in the pouring, hailing rain!! But we made the most of it, sung the whole way prancing about - think the argentinians thought we were mental and some wanted to hit us but was good fun!! Beautitful day!! In the evening we went to the club Pacha like in Ibiza and partyed it up, stupidly expensive club, so bought no drinks! But had a good rave!
Sunday we tried to go to the local football team ´Boca´s away match but had a bit of a disaterous day so couldnt, but ended up having an even better day! Went to another market called Santelmo near by..saw lots of local music, and tango dancing and the most AMAZING ARTIST IN THE WORLD!! It was this guy who had a massive black canvas up, a massive stereo and loads of old music equipment and a few pots of paint, an ipod and his hands. He puts some music on, paces around abit, swings a few microphones about and danced around until he feels the right mood, maybe changes the music....and then with his hands paints the most amazing stuff!! abstract faces kinda things, with his knuckles, fingers, flicking, jumping on it!!! I have a few pics up, i cant descirbe it!! We were all in awe!! Amazing!!
After that we went home and had a massive stress out about money and that was not fun!!
The next day we moved the another hostel, the one we had orginally wanted to stay in. Which was sooooo much better. I dunno, the three days we had in that hostel were ok, ad the building was incredible, but the hostel just didnt have ave a very warm vibe to it. Felt more like a hotel with not very travelly poeple in it so we were happy to leave. And the minute we walked in the new hostel we were like yayyyyyyy! More part vibe, not as swanky as its the old millhouse, but so so so so so SO much better!! So yay, good move us!! And then to bring in our first night there i think i had the best night ive had since We´ve been away!!!
PART 2 - Old Millhouse Hostel
So today we were not planning on going out at all. what so ever. we wanted to lay of the drinking for abit big time!! But then we bumped into two girls we met in Igasu, who knew the two irish boys we met on Ilha Grande, who informed us there was two cocktails for 8 pecos, and a party in the hostel and then accross the road after. sold. hehe. Had the best night!!!! Met millions of people, that hostel was just so so so so so much better than the old one we loved every second! We also bumped into another guy who we met in Mellow Yellow in Rio, this keeps happening! And then bumped into another guy who Id met in Igasu called Scott, so cool to see him! So needless to say we all got riduclously drunk, went accross the road, got caught in the middle of fight, all bumped our heads but danced on! Lorna went home a little earlier than sian and I at a proud time of about 5, then sian went back, Then me a little later. Walked into our room into madness, i was very confused......Lorna had fallen off the top bunk, but was also very drunk and confused, so Sian was trying to help her. I was desperatly trying to do something to help so went outside, found a tree, snapped a little branch of it and tour the leaves off and gave it to lorna offering it as a splint. helpful! Awesome night!!
Next day. Oh the hangovers. This day was a complete right off. up for breakfast, back to bed. went to chemist, got lorna drugs and an actual splint. back to bed. played monopoly. game over.
oh wait I tell lies......we did actually have a tango lesson that day! I had the best partner, Sian had the worst, wo hahah! Lorna coudlt dance because of her hand, so that sucked. But was a fun lesson all the same, lots of thumbs up and my partner and Sians partner trying to sabotage each other. We won. My team rule! Was hilarious...learnt some pretty sexual stuge with alot of leg rubbage! so funny.....thats when my partner introduced his name, was from oz and knew someone from dorch! woop!
Wednesday what did we dooooooooooo. um! Oh yes, we went to the zoo! It was cool, a city Zoo. Lots of amazing animals, like a polar bear, elephants, white tigers...lions etc... It was cool, but just made me really really sad. looked really badly kept, and half the animals looked like theyd gone mad - they were all kept in such small spaces. I dunno, it just wasnt nice to see. So after that i was in abit of a mood so we went to do trip to Kosher Maccy Dee´s number 3 - curtousy of Sian!! Lovely!! In the eveing we went to a propper Tango lesson in this awesome old Vintage warehouse kind of place, was soo pretty! Leanrt some slightly harder stuff and was lots of fun. Again lots of well dones from the teacher....aparently i follow well! Have to say, i prefer Tango to samba alot!! After Tango we drank in the hostel, met some people who were up chatting with until the early hours of the morning discussing tattoos and what not! One of the guys wanted the dont worry be happy melody tattooed around his ankle, but couldnt find the sheet music so I wrote it for him on abit of paper from off the top of my head! He was very greatful and says he going to take it into the tatoo shop! God i hope its right!!!!
Thursday we went to the big semitary in town, where Evita was burried. Again, rubbish weather, not fun! Tan is fading! Not good!!! Grave yard was abit scary and freaky to be honest. All these huge gravestones but all massive memorial statue things, you could see in all the windows and see the coffins and stuff. I dont know, i didnt really like it. But we saw Evitas grave which was was relitavely not extravigant but still nice. Coked another steak for me and Lorna that evening, very well cooked if i do say so myself!! Very nice! but i had to cut Lornas cos of her hand! felt like her mum! Then that evening was our last propper night out in BA. Again it was cheap cocktails and a party in the hostel! After pre drinking there at about 3am we ventured out to an AMAZING hip hop club! Was like Lapa in Rio all over again but even better. Was huge! And bumped into a Adam who we met in Rio there too. Danced our hearts out all night, amazing club. Oh wait i forgot!! Sian got her tattoo! A butterfly on the back of her neck, so pretty!!! I didnt get one.....but still thinking abobut it!!!
Friday - Genrally another hangover ridden day...filled with trying to sunbathe and then booking hostels, getting money, planning. all sorts of non fun stuff before we moved to destination in BA number 3!
PART 3 - Negras House!!
So we arrived at Negra´s flat Friday evening, welcomed by her carer Marrissa and a 94 year old Negra! Both of whom spoke no english what so ever, and any Spanish Id manage to master what totally and utterly not understood in any way! So sign language was the way!!! After some phone calls to Negras daughter Slyvie at home in Martinstown to do some translating, and her friend Gabi round the corner we managed to get accross that we were going to go out for Pizza at a place Slyvie recomended! Amazing Pizza place, must go there again in future!! To die for!
Next day we lazed in the park and i got bitten to pieces, AGAIN. It was like parati all over again coming back to literally bite me in the arse but it wasnt as bad, im surviving!!! In the evening we went to a tango show! Our 3rd influx of Tangoness!!! But we had such an amazing evening. We thouhgt Tnago shows cost aovbut 150 pecos, which is about 30 quid, and we went to the top local Cafe called Cafe Tortinni expecting to pay a fortune, but found out without dinner it was 60! Bingo!!! So we went elsewhere for dinner, allowing oursleves to splash as weve been so tight with money so thought we could maybe spend 40 pecos as a treat, had a lovely meal and were sat next to this ozzy couple in there 40´s or 50´s Id say, chatted to them abit etc.....they were from Perth. When it came to us calling the waitress over for us to pay she came over and said the bill was taken care of by the gentleman next to us! Ahhhhhhh! we were like nooooo noi no no no its fine you didnt have to, and he said no no, if id of told you before youd of never accepted, and besides he had three daighters at home who would cost him alot more than us!! How nice! That only happens in Films!!! They gave us there details too, said they couldt get us a job in oz but could help us out, alot. So nice!! Then later we looked at there email ad when we went to send them one saying thankyou and saw it said blah de blah at oiltraders.com or something. So me thinks they were rather rich!! Deffo staying with them in Oz! But how amazingly nice and amazing was that!!! Yay! So then at the Tango show as dinner was free we treated outselves to some swanky Ice cream, woooo! Show was awesome, the main guy was incredible, and i got asked up on stage again, got to dance wit hthe amaing man up on stage, yay!! Good night!!!
Sunday was equally as good!! Football day, and I have to say. After seeing the Boca fans in bus´s on there way to an away match last week surrounded by police cars and them banging the sides of the bus, hanging out of windows throwing stuff and chanting i was a little bit scared for today but its all good! Im alive!!! We had boys to protect us!! hehe. So yes, we met up with a guy called Paddy who i know from uni in Brum, ones of Jess´s best freinds! So we met him, and turns out some guys he was also meeting up with to come along too were people we had met in Rio over carnival, small world!!! So we all trundled off to the footy and went to get our tickets, then off to Boca for some Lunch. Me and Lorna in true manly style in our day of football ordered a MASSIVE platter of meat, the biggest Mixed Grill ive ever seen in my life. And drank beer. We ate steak, kidney, ribs, some other stuff, and oh yes. Intestine. The boys were very proud, haha. It was rank. But the other meat and beer was awsome and us little ladies scoffed in all we could and we ready for some footty! Some more girls were suppsoed to be meeting us but they got held up at knife point on a bus so that wasnt fun for them! But they got helped off the bus by two argentinian guys who came to help them meet us at the restaurant who became our personal body guards for the day! Boca is a reeeeaaaly dodgy area with police aobut telling you the streets not to go down cos you will actually die. It just has a few super touristy streets where we ate. Oh yes, at lunch there was another tango show where i was pulled up to dance again. Getting good at this!!
So yes the football, have no photos as taking a camera was a stupid idea. But trust me it was incredible!!!!! Went through about a million security checks, and were told where to sit and not to sit by paddy as apparently they throw wee in bottles on your heads and stuff, and orignally we sat down slap bang in the middle of hoolaganville!!! But it was fine, as we had our two personal securty men, we called them brother Boca, and Daddy Boca (who was about 60!) awesome, they proctected us the whole day!! The game was i.n.s.a.n.e. Compared to Rio, wow. Rios stadium was massive and impressive and amazing, but this one was a more local game, smaller stadium, but packed. Rough as hell and terrifying!! But very cool!! Even for the pre matches everyone wa going mental...the centre of our bit was packed with crazy people, we were in the standing bith bar baracade bits every so often, and then mentalists were standiing up on them hanging onto the flags that were draped down over the fans, sliding on them with drums and stuff it was crazy. When it came to the actual match...it was ridiculous, singing, chanting and crazy people with drumsand we were packed in, with people standing ontop of everyone, i feared for my life everytime something good or bad happended that the whole stand was just going to crumble into one big collapsing bundle!! But it was all good, daddy boca protected us and Boca won 3-0! Thank god the other team didnt score, god knows what the fans would of done!!! We did see the guy next to us get mugged, and have his chain necklce whipped off from around his neck which wasnt great!! After the game we packed in and couldnt get out for hours and eventually got out, and were saftely out of Boca. Daddy Boca andPaddy etc..waited with us til we found a taxi and we were finally home safe! Awesome experience but sooooo scary! Thank god there were no fights!!!
Monday we left for Mendoza! Bought Negra some flowers, had goodbye lunch and tea and buscuits.....argentina does TEA! AND GOOD TEA! god send. We then left on one of the flashy argentinian bus´s again wihch was a good laugh, watched the film ´Taken´which is now officially my favorite film ever ive never been so gripped and on the edge of my seat for an entire film ever. Action films are the way!!! So yes, will write again soon about the time we had in Mendoza, then its off to Chille, goodbye Argentina!! I LOVE YOU!
