Hello from Wine Ville!
We are in sunny Mendoza, a place about 17 hours west from Buenos Aries which is famous for its many wineries etc...! Its so pretty here, built up around the centre and then you look out and the whole place is surrounded by snow capped mountains its so stunning!! We are staying in a nice lil old hostel with a pool and stuff and yes its very nice and chilled! We have just two days here.
So our first day we kinda milled about, went out for lunch, found nice parks and then partied for St.Patricks day which is HUGE out here! Loads of Irish Pubs...so we styled ourselves most brilliantly with what we had in our backpacks...Lorna wore green, Sian white and my orange, Irish flag...BINGO! went to the pub, drank stuff which looked a little like Guinness...and had our faces painted! Yay! Was a cute little old night...and we ate pie!
Wednesday was the day we were properly excited for, the vineyard tour!!!!!!!!!! We hired bikes and went on a tour! Day started off great, turned up at the first winery on the minibus, firstly couldn't get out the minibus as there was a van FULL OF WASPS!!!!!!!!! Had to drive round to the back of the building for our safety but then had to run through them anyway. NOT FUN! Anyway! Looked around winery number 1, pretty cool, tried some wine, lovely lovely! Then got fitted for our bikes, was very happy as mine fit perfectly, was very smug lalala, then realized it had no foot pedal, and cos id been mulling around promoting the brilliance of my bike there was only one rubbish one left! So we set of on about a 40 minute bike ride with me a lot of pain cos of my rubbish bike! But got there int he end, Lorna dead cos she couldn't use her hand...but it was all fine as we looked around another winery! Better than the last, and we had lunch there. After that Lorna decided to ride inthe van, so i got her blissful bike so all the rest of the riding was a dream, but was sad lorna couldnt ride! Next stop was an Olive factory, that was pretty boring cos i hate Olives...haha. So just sat in the sun on the olive tasting bit! Hopped back on the bikes to the last winery which was the best tour ever, learnt some expect wine tasting skills, and was just generally a wicked tour, and i got some lovely photos of some old wine bottles!! So i was very pleased indeed! After that we hopped back in the van as the last stop was to far.........a chocolate factory. Our worst nightmare, as we´ve given it up for lent. Sad times!
It was a nightmare.
Offering around all these chocolate liquors....chocolate banana and white chocolate pieces in it...white chocolate. OH THE PAIN! I so very very very nearly gave in! But i rapped some up to take home instead and will have it on Easter Sunday! Its so far away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! urg. Anyways awesome day! Bar the choc temptations!!!! In the evening we went to a Pizza Party in another hostel where i scoffed a ridiculous amount of pizza as it was all you can eat, lil bit to much! Then there was a party, drank some more red wine and met some more Aussies who taught us a good flightless bird dance which i will be promoting all around the world! Loved it!!
Thursday we had a big fat chill out day by the pool, absolute Bliss. met a guy who we are going to be meeting in Santiago and will travel down to Pucon with us to climb an active Volcano!! Then we were are off to Chile, jumped on the night bus! Went lowest of the low class this time to save the pennies...got some good all the same though, LOVE these bus´s! Fell asleep, only to be woken up at about 3am, stupidly confused, told to get of for the boarder crossing. I was totally out of it and walked of the bus just in socks nearly falling over. Sniffer dogs at my bags, people speaking stupid Chilean Spanish which makes NO sence!!! Bus driver Christoff looked after us, made friends with an important boarder man who tried to take my Perusian money from me, thought it was hialours, i was like look Peiroo, NO. Best friends. Got some more nice stamps, lot of waiting, decided to sit on the floor! Girls laughed at me cos i was half asleep, no idea what was going on! Was hilarious....went through more checks, dogs sniffing for coke. Asked the coke man the name of his dog, he said dog. Excellent. Stupid man, we called him perugio. Christoff finally took us back the bus and we drove through the hills for a few more hours, was stunning. Finally arrived in Santiago! Woooooo!
