I think I'm finally caught up...
We trekked to the Pontevecchio Bridge over the Arno River this afternoon. Ponte Vecchio means "old bridge" in Italian. Its the oldest of Florence's 6 bridges and was the only bridge in Florence the Germans didn't destroy during WWII. Now for the fun part... the entire bridge is lined with shops that overhang the river. And not just any shops... jewelry shops... expensive jewelry shops. The most intriguing thing to me was the jewelry made out of coral. That is, until the white dresses came along.
Apparently an assortment of Florentine brides like to walk this bridge in their wedding gowns. Never mind the crowds of shoppers and tourists, the made up, curled and tightened 'donnas' march right on thru. I'm gonna have to look into this quirky tradition...
Its bedtime for me here in Florence. Tomorrow we're waking up with the sun to catch the 7:30 train to Cinque Terra. Yay for a beach day in the mediterranean! Ugh for the 3 hour train ride. Buona notte!
