I pulled a late night last night and stayed up until 4:30 this morning working a paper and was up again at 9:30 this morning ready to hit up the castle. I discovered, not happily, that nighttime is very short in Europe. It was dark until almost 10PM and the sun might as well have been completely up at 4:30AM. Like the Germans, Austrians are pretty serious about time. We had the Salzburg Card to get into the fortress. The Card comes in options that either valid for 24, 48 or 72 hours after you validate them and grant you 'free' entrance into most the sites in the city. The man in front of us tried to use his Salzburg Card, but the poor guy was 4 minutes too late. His card had already expired.
Salzburg really is the city of music today. I think there might be a competition going on, but the there are groups all around the city singing.
I'm really surprised to feel like Salzburg is by far my favorite place we've visited. I initially thought that Florence would be because it was the city that I knew the most about. I knew close to nothing about Salzburg. I guess that goes to show you really can't jump the gun and judge other cultures/places before you check them out.
5 days till I'm home in the Holy City!! :-D
