We have arrived safe and sound in Prague. The trip over was long but fairly uneventful. We flew out of CVG at 4:00 PM on Wednesday and didn't arrive in Prague until 4:00 PM (Ohio time). Twenty four hours of travel time and no body odor of note. That's a win-win. We were able to miss out on the bad weather in Cincy when we took off. We had a 2 hour layover at JFK which proved (strangely) to be more than enough time. The flight from JFK to Amsterdam had an "equiptment change" so our seats got all screwy. They ended up putting us in the exit row seats (gobs of leg room) but unfortunately right next to the crapper. I think I slept for a total of 30 minutes and Scott didn't sleep at all. That flight was about 7 hours. When we got to Amsterdam we had another 2 hour layover before our flight to Franfurt. Weather was great for all flights. Nothing terrible in the way of turbulence or hard landings. And then we went to get our rental car. Scott had apparently booked the rental at a different airport in Franfurt, so we had to transfer the reservation. We ended up with a bigger car, though, so again...it all worked out. Drivers in this neck of the woods drive on the same side of the road as drivers in the US. It took about 7 hours of driving to get to Prague. Traffic sucked in Germany and people passed us going roughly 150 mph - and no, I'm not exagerrating. Driving in Prague was challenging because of the narrow roads, trams and pedestrians. Scott managed quite well.
We had to leave the car in storage and walk our luggage to the hotel. It was only a 5 or 10 minute walk. We arrived late at around 10:00 PM. Our room is awesome. It looks right out over the main square and has a view of the Tyn Cathedral. Very pretty. It's noisy because the square is busy, but the view and location negate the noise. The building is really old and the door locks with an actual key. The ceiling is open beam and has been ornately painted. Very nice. We both slept well all night and woke up around 8:00 AM local. Breakfast is provided by the hotel and was de-lish. Scrambled eggs, sausage, all sorts of bread and pastries, fruit, cereal, unidentifiable meats and cheeses. Potent coffee. Jet lag hadn't hit me yet so we ventured out for about an hour. It is CROWDED here. And regardless of my ISO setting on my camera it was so bright every photo was blown out. Early morning will be best for that. The streets here are more cobblestoned than Paris by far. Tons of ourdoor cafe's. We did a lap around a couple of blocks and came back because my jet lag is now starting to set in. We'll venture our again later. Weather here is in the 70's and sunny.
