The LONG way down!!!
We have officially arrived back in Spain after spending about a week in Portugal (too short if you ask me though). So what has happened the past week? Too much to write about, but Ill give it my best college try!!
After arriving in Lisbon early Tuesday morning, we spent the first two nights at the Travellers House hostel which I previously wrote about. We then moved down the street to the Old Town Hostel, run by a nice older gentleman (unfortunately though, the walls were paper thin so you could hear EVERYTHING).
Thursday was probably one of the best days of my life, and I think we all agreed it was one of the best things we have all done. We rented scooters downtown and decided to drive them up the coast to a small town called Cascais, and check out some of the beaches. The weather was great, the coast was beautiful and the drive was amazing! We got some awesome pics (which will be up shortly) while taking in the beautiful coast. We saw some amazing waves, visited what the people there call Hells Mouth, and watched the sunset on the beach in the evening. Pretty much the perfect day.
But if it was the perfect day, then it was also a crappy night. We got lost on the way back to Lisbon and drove around for what seemed like hours. Finally we ran into a stranger who spoke little english but offered to let us follow him back downtown, even though it was out of his way. Luke also had a small wipeout on the old scoot (which we nicknamed old Deaner for those of you whove seen Fubar), but fortunately was fine. I then got a small cold, but am also fine.
Friday we decided to go to Sintra, also outside Lisbon, with an Australian girl and a Swiss bloke we met at the hostel. Sintra was amazing, you could probably spend a week there and we barely spent a day. I wish I couldve spent more time there but oh well. On a side note, Mom you would die in Sintra, theres like 3 castles, we went to one and didnt even make it inside, there was so much to see.
Our two new friends were also very interesting. Our Swiss friend was very quiet and said maybe 5 words the whole day, but seemed fairly nice. Our Australian friend was very cool. She was studying in Paris for the year and was in Portugal for the week. She is only 21 and has been to Europe by herself 5 times already! We had a great time with them in Sintra, and unfortunately, like usual our time together was too short.
Saturday we took the bus to Lagos, Portugal, in the Algarve. Lagos is a small beach town, about 3 hours south of Lisbon, on the southern coast. Despite it being very quiet, I liked Lagos because while many wealthy people have moved there, it doesnt seem to have lost its charm or ruggedness. We spent our time there at a local watering whole called the 3 monkeys. The kid did a beer bong there for Team Canada (were even behind the Americans there!) and met some expats from all over the world. Lagos would be amazing in the summer. It has surfing, mountain biking and amazing beaches. Picture Wasaga or Grand Bend only with better waves.
We decided to leave Lagos on Monday as it was fairly slow (although in the summer its supposed to be CRAZY), and headed to Spain again. I am sad that we left Portugal, I loved it there. The people were very kind to us, and it was beautiful as well. I will always have a fond place in my heart for Portugal.
We are now in Sevilla, Spain and tomorrow we are gonna go check out the city. We have been figuring out the rest of our plans and we are either headed to Cordoba, Cadiz or Granada before going to Morocco.
So very exciting things to come, and hopefully we can share some more of our pictures with you guys at home, as good internet (usbs specifically) have been a little more difficult to find, although we havent looked THAT hard.
So talk to yall soon!
