G'day guys from the Sunshine Coast.
Hope everyone is ok, it is Craig again this time.
We are now in Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast which boast over 320 sunny days per year. Well it is a shame then that we are here in the middle of turrential rain and flooding. Haha just our luck. We have even extended our stay here because the weather was so good on our first two days here but now this. Oh well the weather is even worse further South so i guess that is some consolation... oh and the fact our room is en-suite and with a TV..WooHoo!! So yesterday was spent watching parkinson re-runs and the simpsons, could be worse.
However, lets not dwell on the bad things and instead talk about all the fun stuff we have been up to of late. After our last blog we had missed our bus over to Fraser Island. (Technically WE did not miss it, it turned up half an hour early and did not stop). Well the next day we did get on the bus and headed over to Fraser Island. The bus is a 4 wheel drive monster of a bus designed for driving along the beaches and rough terrain on Fraser Island as there are no man made roads. In just one day we did a massive tour of the Island, we visited Mckensie Lake which boasts some of the most crystal clear water you could imagine. We then headed up to a shipwreck that has washed up on the beach and cliffs that are made from all different colours of sand which is pretty cool.
After leaving Fraser Island and Rainbow Beach we then headed down to Mooloolaba, which is a small but lively beach town. Our main intention for stopping here was that it is close to Australia Zoo, home to the crocodile hunter himself. The zoo is actually owned by the late Steve Irwin and his family and it is just how you would imagine it to be with lots of crazy zookeepers just like Steve entertaining you at all the different shows going on throughout the day. They have less animals than other zoos but there is a good reason for this. The pens that contain the animals are HUGE! So it is not as cruel on the animals. The crocs they have here are soooo big and are the main attraction but the zoo is also home to tigers, elephants, giant tortoises, kangaroos, snakes, koalas as well as a vast array of birds. One of the most exciting aspects of the day was that we actually got to feed the elephants, which i can only describe as slimy as the elephants trunk wraps around your hand, but we wanted photos so we kept going back again and again to feed them. We also got a photo taken holding a snake, which is something we have done quite a lot out here already however this snake (a constricting python) was pretty huge so we had to do it again. It turns out that this snake is only a baby as well.
So thats probably about it for now i think. I always remember something else once i have finished and left the computer, typical eh.
Oh yeah 3 weeks today and we will be coming home. :( Oh well we have had a wicked time so far and have got even more good times to come.
We are currently trying to upload all the photos as we are seriously behind but there are just too many to do in one session so be patient, we will get there eventually.
So bye for now from both of us. Speak to you all soon.
Love to all
Craig and Kirsty xxx
