Hey Guys,
It has been a while since we have been on this and I would love to say that is because we have been busy nonstop, but we have not really, apart from a couple of days.
We left the not so sunny sunshine coast and headed to Brisbane, one of the fastest growing cities in the world. It is a shame therefore that there is nothing to do. It took us one afternoon to take in all the sights and walk around the whole city. The highlight of Brisbane for me was definately the amazing fry up I had the next morning while waiting for our bus. I just asked Kirsty for a comment about Brisbane and she said "errrr".
Next on our intinerary was Surfers Paradise. Our hostel was actually just outside the main hub in a quiet place called Southport. The hostel was perfect. Nice and chilled with a great atmosphere, but close enough to everything. Surfers Paradise is on the Gold Coast which attracts a lot of tourist as it has five theme parks in close proximity. We chose the visit Sea World and Warners Bros Movie World.
Sea World...Amazing!! Rained most of day but we are used to that now in Australia and we were swimming with sharks so we were going to get wet anyway. Luckily for us the Stingray pool was closed for refurbishment so all the stingrays were in the tank with the sharks which made the experience all the more exciting. Some of the sharks were pretty big and when one of them suddenly started swimming towards us erratically, well it is safe to say we left our mark in that pool!!! Haha. We saw polar bears, watched the most amazing dolphin show and went on rollercoasters and logflumes galore. If you have ever been on a rollercoaster or log flume you will know that they take a picture of you randomly at some point around the track. Well on one of the logflumes I tried pulling a face for the camera but it backfired on me because when we went to look at the photos everyone including Kirsty and the women who worked there were laughing at me because the face I had pulled made me look like a was scared out of my mind on a little kiddies logflume. We did not buy that photo!!
The next day was Movie World. Basically this was a theme park half made of rollercoasters and the other half movie themed shows. The first thing we did was go on the Superman rollercoaster as it has been voted best in Southern hemisphere. Waiting in line it did not look up to much, but OH MY GOD was it fast. We also went to see a Hollywood Stunt Driver show which was immense, we did our best to film it but it is not easy following three crazy stunt cars doing tricks. Possibly the best part of the day was the all you can eat buffet we had which lasted all day. After consuming around three roast dinners, spag bol, pasta, chinese, chips, lamb curry and a hell of a lot of desert we continued with the attractions, and surprisingly we were not sick. At the end of the day we got off a ride five minutes before the buffet closed so we raced over blagged our way in and filled up another few plates of food. We were literally scooping in roast beef in one hand and shoveling in ice cream with the other.
For the last three days in surfers we just chilled out and did nothing, as it was easter weekend there was nothing to do really. We just had a laugh with some amazing people. Tom the sweedish driver so funny, and Maija what a legend...and a nutter.
So that brings us to now i think. Time is a confusing thing when you do not have a routine. Yesterday we did our final leg on the naff Oz Experience and true to form the bus turned up an hour late. Two hours later we were in Byron Bay which is basically hippie-ville. Lots of hippies came here for a festival in 1972 and never left. Ganja is rife here and in many places the police do not even prosecute for it. We had just arrived at the back end of a massive festival and the local residents were feeling it. The hippie receptionist in our hostel was off her head still talking to us about chakras and third eyes. Friendly though haha.
So we checked out this morning but have to hang around all day because our bus is not until 8pm as we have boycotted the Oz Experience and are taking a night bus straight to Sydney rather than take the random stop journey they do taking them two days. Our bus takes 13 hours so tomorrow morning about 9.30am we will arrive in SYDNEY!!!!! Which is really exciting but also sad because it means our journey is over and in a week we will be flying home. However the good news we already have our next trip planned but we will save the details until we get home!
Now craig just submitted this without saying bye... How rude!! So it is now Kirsty!!
Hope your all ok!!
Loadsa Love
