Sooo Bolivia. Im going to try to keep this one up to date instead of waiting till the very end to write the Bolivia blog like I did Salta!! Im finding it hard though as it takes about an hour to write up everything, but at the end I can print this out onto a book so desperately want to put a lot of information in here!
So we got up in Salta at 4am this morning in our nice rooms and packed up. Went to the front desk to book a taxi and there was a guy there who speaks perfect English! Me and seb couldn't believe it… we have strugged to converse with this hostel cos they don't speak any English, and they have an English speaking person on at 4am in the morning!! What a waste! Haha.
We got our taxi and managed to find the bus we were on. Still an ok bus with reclining seats etc but nothing like the one we got from chile where we were a bit spoilt. There they would serve us coffee, tea, food, there was heaps of room, and the guys swept and mopped the bus every few hours to make sure it was clean!! Guess this bus is what we will be getting used to in Bolivia. After reading the lonely planet book im a bit more excited now. Was a bit worried after the guy told us the stories about Bolivia but after reading I am sure he just wasn't careful enough, and plus he was travelling on his own which is a target in places like this!
So we were on the bus for 8 hours, and then crossed the border with these ANNOYING ladies who walked so slow it was not funny. Me and seb were going to offer to pull their suitcases as well as carry our own 3 bags each just so they would hurry up! Border crossing was a breeze, guess its cos they are more worried about what is coming out of Bolivia rather than what is going in! hung around in the town for an hour or so and got an alpaca beanie and wicked gloves for $30 pesos.. which is about $6. Good sign as I need to tighten my budget for a while!!
Now we are on a train on the way to Uyuni. Apparently we should get there at about midnight tonight in a hotel with private bathroom (woohoo that never happens, though yet to be seen what this bathroom looks like or if it has hot water…) and then our tour starts tomorrow. After that I should have some more amazing photos and lots of great stories! So until then I will hang out on this train, watching I think my 30th movie in Spanish and wait to see what Bolivia brings me…
