Hi!
So what has happened so far... from last night when I last left this off me and Seb had just done the wine tour! I realised that I had left my Malbec on the bus but the guy here rang the company and managed to chase up my wine so I got it this morning!
So we went to the centre of town to the 'Bar Street' and managed to ask the taxi driver in Spanish where there was dancing and what bar he recommended - we were very proud haha. So turns out that the day we got to Mendoza was Independence day here so everything was shut. Then the Friday the government gave everyone the day off as a 'Panic Swine Flu' day… so bizarre! Haha. So everything has been shut, and apparently will be shut for another 2 weeks cos it is the peak of winter and they are trying to stop the spread of swine flu. Pretty crazy to walk around town and everything be shut!
So we went out to a cute bar but it was so cold out. We moved to a second bar and figured we'd try to do a pub crawl until the two English people we met had finished dinner with her parents. So we ordered what we thought was a glass of red Malbec and a glass of sweet wine for Seb - yes Im addicted to this vino tinto! (red wine) it's AMAZING. So anyway we had actually ordered a bottle of each… oops! Great wine though. Funniest looks from the waitress when she was like… are you serious… you want to order a bottle of wine EACH! Haha lucky we didn't understand it when she said this we were like 'si, si' haha. The wine was great anyway! Seb had a GREAT night out last night… so great that she doesn't think she can drink that wine again. Haha. We hung out with the great English couple and chatted to them all night. Got tips for our trip and Seb managed to get some good ideas from them for when she is in Europe. We got home quite late but got a taxi back so all was good.
The taxis are great here; always take you the right way, soooo cheap, and always available and friendly! They try to say small talk and we respond where we can haha.
So today is our last day in Mendoza which is a shame cos we LOVE it here. The food and wine here is amazing and apparently is the best in South America. We will be starving in all the other countries and cities after this apparently so we have absolutely made the most of it! We heard that we should go to Mario's for lunch so we managed to find the address and get there. We made a Canadian friend in the hostel and he came with us which was good.
Don Mario was the restaurant and it was just as amazing as Francesco but it was all grilled Argentinean meats and steaks and stuff. Beautiful! Seb was quite a bit hungover and the steak seemed to fix her! We got the most amazing Sirloin steaks and desserts. I had a flan with Dolce de leche which is a really sweet like caramel sauce. I will put photos up but the food was amazing and the people were so lovely as they are in all of Mendoza! They took us to the kitchen and showed us the grill - will put that up in the photos too - and we got a photo with our waiter. We had an amazing lunch and wish all of South America has this fantastic food. Although if it did me and seb wouldn't fit in our seats on the airplane ride home! Haha.
So that's about it so far. We are now off to Iguazu falls on a 36 hour bus ride… woohoo L well I have my two bottles of wine to keep me occupied. Might do some Spanish, and have all of Matt's country music on his ipod to keep me entertained haha. Should be good though.
Will do more updates later on - keep forgetting stuff to put in here but hopefully the photos will show things I forget anyway!
