So today is Tuesday but it's hard to even know that cos all the days are starting to blend in together! Me and sebba are on the bus to Salta now which is only 26 hours in comparison to the 36 hours for the previous bus ride we were on from Mendoza. Man that was a long one. We both feel like we have been on here forever! I think over the past 5 days we have watched about 15 movies, two of which were in English (one switched half way to Spanish) and one more was Spanish with English bud titles. The rest we have to try to interpret into English by what they are doing on the screen!
So we got onto the bus Saturday night by my calculations and managed to find the right bus which was good. We realised we had set seats this time which saved us the hard conversations from the bus from Santiago which the first 10 minutes we couldn't work out what a couple of ladies were saying to us or how we found out which seats we were actually meant to be in! haha
I had bought some bottles of Malbec (Matt you would LOVE this wine) from the wineries in Mendoza and so I opened that up on the way to Iguazu and therefore managed to find some friends. No one on the bus speaks English so we really needed people on our side to tell us what was going on! Haha. It's a bit crazy cos outside the bus it looks like the Aussie landscape and then inside no one speaks English!!!
We also played bingo on the bus with 16 numbers up to 100… haha they read it so fast and it was so hard! Even if I had won I wouldn't have said so cos I would have been worried that I had gotten the numbers wrong. But the couple behind us was helping me too which was good haha. They are such warm people here, and even though we can't actually converse everyone is always willing to help where they can.
Iguazu falls was definitely worth the trek out there. I will post up a few photos but try to keep it limited cos of course we took HEAPS of photos while we were there - mainly cos we are both sucky photographers so we figured that one or two would turn out good haha. The falls are loud, and breathtaking. It really is amazing to see and I think from now on when I see any waterfall in Australia they are certain to just look like a tap trickling now!!!
We did a jet boat ride and bought ponchos for that as well cos it was freezing and we were slightly dumb and forgot to bring warm clothes… ugh. Anyway the jet boat ride was AWESOME we actually went into some of the falls! Or as close as possible without capsizing. Will put up a video I took of another boat doing it so we could see what we did!
The town of Puerto Iguazu was really nice too - 30 mins from the falls. I managed to find a seat on the way back to town from the falls and it was pretty funny cos there was an old guy learning English wanting to practise that on me, and I wanted to practice my Spanish! Although his English was FAR better than my Spanish!!
So yeah back on the bus heading to Salta and then later on to the Salt flats… they should be a highlight I reckon from what I have heard! Need to wash clothes as haven't done a load yet and already sick of my tiny wardrobe haha. Haven't had a shower since…. Uhhh Saturday cos we haven't had a chance - been on buses for SOOOO long. Sickening really and my hair is so greasy that I can't even touch it anymore… good image Im serving up here haha.
But everything has gone well so far… no dramas really just a lot of fun and a lot of buses. Think we are right on budget and that is mainly cos we have been doing good stuff and eating good food. We have been to the two most expensive countries now so fingers crossed its cheaper from here on in!
Well that's about it. Im still on the bus - lucky seb has battery and an itsy bitsy laptop!
Next stop Salta!!! Woohoo!

Ok so we are at Salta now (Wed 23:00) and thought before I do a Salta blog I should finish this one off… so we arrived in Tucuman right on time which was great! Looking fwd to our first class seats for the last 5 hour leg of the bus ride. Unfortunately our bus was delayed by over an hour (try working that out in Spanish) and so we had some dinner while waiting. Finally 3 buses turned up going to some place which we figured was close to Salta. So we went from bus to bus trying to work out which one we were meant to be on! Each bus driver referred us to the next, and then we finally found a bus willing to take us... phew. Not really the experience we were hoping for. In addition to this… that mean that we would be turning up to a hostel in a city we didn't know at 1:30am… not knowing if we would be past curfew and that they might not let us in so we would have nowhere to stay! (don't worry mum we were just going to get a good hotel for the night cos most of them are 24 hours!). anyway turned out ok... we were so cold and tired when we turned up though and so incredibly happy to be sleeping on a rock hard mattress in our sleeping bags... but actually horizontal… which is something we hadn't had for the past 3 nights!
The fun of backpacking… J
Salta updates to come later!
