Kim and Hayley's Excellent Adventure
Hello.......
Well it has been a while eh???? Sorry about that!!!!! I hope you all like the photos though????
Right'o...... well we left you in Cusco........ Beautiful city. We managed to get booked onto the Inca trail, although not THE inca trail, but a slightly different one, as the real one had been booked up until a few weeks after we left South America, and us being us we wanted to go to Machu Picchu, so we decided to do the hike, which took us down into the jungle and then up to MP, along a bit of the Inca trail and ending at MP.......
Well, we were supposed to leave on the Monday, however there was a landslide so we had to leave on the tuesday insted, and us being us, and totally crazy decided not to waist our day and head off to do some Absailing...... yep thats right, absailing............ not just any absailing though, we though we would mix it up a little bit and go for an absail down a 100 metre waterfall!!!!!!!! hummmmmm...... this was after a 2 hour hike up a goats path!!!!! hummmm........ then we got dressed up in snugg fitting wetsuits and went over the edge........ by far one of the most scary adventures for me so far as Kim loves heights........ me on the other hand.... hummmm this happened to be one of my biggest fears... this along with shairing a room with Aussie men!!!!!!!!
So down we went, and got some great photos to show you as well!!!!!!!!
So back to Cusco, and the next day our hike begins... well we had a two hour bus drive to the starting point on a road with a cliff on one side, and we mounted our bikes and off we went.... down hill for about 4 hours..... something like 80+ km were covered and believe me it was hard saying goodbye to my saddle... very hard, so hard infact i think we almost needed surgery..... along with Kim and her new speedy steed!!!!
So we stayed in a lovely hostel the first night, early to bed and even earlier to rise.... yep 5am... and we thought we had lost our camera....... well lost in the way that we thought someone had been though our room and decided to take it with them when they departed!!!!!!
You should have seen us... i mean we are not the jolliest of people when we get up at that hour anyways, but we were like thunder.......... Luckily, as it would go, Kimmy later found it in her bag, after haveing a pain in her back all day she finally investigated what was poking in her back, and it turned out to be our little camera happy to be reunited with its owners!!!!!!
So a whole day of hiking up hill......... yep a whole day, and we had so much fun, we even found a plant that incas used to dye clothes.... 'oh' the fun we had with that and painting our faces.... arms... legs... bodies...... get the picture????
We got to walk up part of the inca trail as well....... they really did have little feet!!!!!
We finally reached base camp after finding some natural hot spas, and soothing our feet in them for a couple of hours...................... 'oh' and we made great friends with the mozzies along the way as well... infact almost 3 weeks after and we are still itching them.... or that could be Kims fleas???/ not too sure????
So the next day, and again more hiking up hill...... but this time it was easier, as we had a track to follow, and not just a little overgrown goats path from the day before.
Many waterfalls and beautiful mountians later and we reached the base camp for the day before our final hike to the top of Machu Picchu!!!!!!
4am Rise and we were up like a shot...... ready to head up the mountian....... which is exactly what it was.............. I think it was about 4000 steps, which takes about an hour and a bit to get up........ Well little Kimmy here broke the guides record and ran up the steps like lara Croft and managed to do it in about 30 minutes!!!!! even beating the germans in the team.... good girl!!!!!
And there we were... at the top................. we had to wait for a bit ... well until the rest of our group had gotten to the top, and we all went through and had a 2 hour guided tour of the ruins........ many temples, and just amazing to see...... totally unreal!!!!!!!! Photos to follow........
The views were breath taking and like i keep banging on about,........ just unreal....... i think all of us had to take time out to realise that we were actually at Machu Picchu and not watching it in a film or something!!!!
So........ Tired and sore, we caught the train back to Cusco, where we still couldn't believe we had reached the top and seen what we had seen. a few beers later, and we where in bed by 8............... unreal!!!!!!!!!
