We had to check out of our Siem Reap hotel today and it was really sad to be leaving this place that has provided us with so many adventures. And the most amazing memories. But we had done everything there was to do here so it was time to move on.
This morning we packed and caught a taxi to Siem Reap airport. The taxi driver like all educated Cambodians plagued us for information the whole trip. And as usual he wanted to talk so as to practice his English. He was saving to do his masters so he could become a teacher. And hopefully travel.
We were flying Angkor Air and I wasn't happy about it. It is a new Cambodian service that has only been operating a few weeks. In the end though the flight was late, but smooth and uneventful.
We were met at the airport and driven to the port where we boarded the resort boat. The boat is new about 34 foot and quite fancy. And driven by this very happy Cambodian captain! He is driving the best boat in the Gulf of Thailand! He kept pointing out the controls and maps - and laughing. He is one very happy Cambodian!
The resort doesn't look that amazing at first sight. As we pulled up I was thinking "what the???". And I know Dean was as well. But as we found out later - the resort is built on the concept of sustainability - and privacy. As a result from the outside looking in - it doesn't look that great. But from the inside looking out - it is AMAZING!
Our villa is huge. Bedroom, desk area, lounge area, our own infinity pool, double day bed, private beach area. It faces directly onto the ocean. The bathroom is just wow! The resort has a beautiful bay with beach area. A large infinity pool. And an amazing overwater restaurant and bar area.
It is beautiful - it is just not finished. And so there are mounds of building stuff and a tractor next to the beach. The landscaping - really needs a wet season etc etc. But then we paid 1/4 of the normal price. We could not afford to pay full price to stay here. And really it did not detract from anything all that much.
We had a 4 course degustation dinner in the overwater restaurant. It was awesome.
Unfortunately I woke up at 2am very sick. We got no sleep that night. It was no fun at all....
