New Years Eve! And our first day with nothing planned!
I have to say we were quite exhausted after the flight from Australia and then four days of traipsing around the countryside here. So we were looking forward to some relaxation.
We slept in, had a late breakfast, and headed for the pool. We had planned to go shopping - but once settled at the pool - we were too lazy to move. The pool area really is beautiful - especially at night.
We had lunch at the poolside cafe - spring rolls and chicken curry and stir fry. Then a massage later. It was an amazing massage - probably the best I have had.
Dinner was at 8 and was 4 courses. Foie Gras - which Dean and I loathe! But then "trilogy from the sea" - scallops, crab legs and lobster bisque. Pink champagne watermelon granitee. Roast turkey. And Guanaja chocolate coulant with lime leaf coconut sorbet. We ate very well!! The tables were beautifully set - and the setting was gorgeous. We had a table right in front of the stage as we had been the first people to check in - so we felt rather privileged.
Unfortunately a waiter did spill a whole glass of champagne over Dean's trousers. Considering that he was soaked - Dean handled it very well.....
During dinner they had a quartet playing. The musicians were from the University of Fine Arts. Then a display of traditional dancing. We also had to walk across the road to the river and put our new years wishes in a little boat with a candle in it and send it off floating down the river.
Then it was up to the bar which had been turned into a disco. There were fireworks - lots of noise and not much sparkle - but hey can't have everything! Free Moet flowed generously. There was the count down to new year - and then dancing. I vaguely remember dancing barefoot about 1.30 in the morning before we finally crashed!
It was a New Years Eve to remember!
