From Donna and Clyde: We are up to Day 4 in Brittany (our campervan as christened by Toby). Unfortunately, we have had three days of driving and camping in torrential rain and bitter cold. We spent our first night at a little place called Wyatt's Covert and then had Saturday night at a national park site in Sherwood Forest. We spent last night in York, where it was too cold and wet to get out and see much of the City so we parked up in Brittany playing cards and the kids watched Harry Potter DVD's. Today finally dawned as a lovely sunny day, so we spent some time looking around York which is a lovely city and then hit the road and headed to Scarborough and then Robin Hood's Bay. We stopped at RHB for a pub lunch, where we managed to tick off a number of our English must do's (a Pub Lunch in a quaint little town, fish and chips, and a pint of bitter). After that the mist descended over the Yorkshire Moors and we took a quick tour round Whitby before heading to our final destination for the night - Durham. Special thanks must go to Dave Trueman for steering us towards Yorkshire, as we have loved it (despite the weather). Our Navman (Shirley) has proven to be a great investment and has prevented us from getting too lost, although we have had some interesting adventures and have now worked out that we should avoid the shortest route, as it is likely to be the slowest and include very narrow pathways down rural lanes and dead end streets through the depths of Middlesborough.
We are hoping the weather will clear up some more so we can get a chance to have a better look at the countryside, but the locals we have spoken to do not seem very hopeful. A few rivers we have crossed have been very close to breaching their banks, and the Ouse River in York seemed very high. As we had expected, it has got progressively colder as we have travelled north, and I ended up buying an extra fleece top today in York to ward off the cold. Despite the weather, we are enjoying our adventures with Brittany, and no matter how much it rains, and how cold it is, it is better than being at work!! Tomorrow we are leaving ole Durham town and heading for Edinburgh and St Andrews for three nights. Luckily someone mentioned to us yesterday that it is a bank holiday weekend next weekend so we have managed to squeeze our way into some camping sites for that weekend, which means we are a bit more organised with our route than we had planned to be.
Molly and Toby - missing in action: Molly and Toby have reported that they are too busy watching HP tonight to blog, but told me to tell everyone that we are in a campervan!

Dave Pleased that you enjoyed Yorkshire (shame about the weather). Enjoy Scotland. A wee dram of some good single malt should keep you warm!
Anne Maire Donna, the Dungeon Museum in Edinburgh (I think close to the station) is REALLY good.
