I am now in Paris and have found it to be a great little city. The people are very friendly and there subway system or metro is the best I have been on very clean, great maps, and easy to figure out stations. I have gone to the Eiffel Tower and Louve they are amazing and Notre Dame is the coolest thing here. The gargoyles and creepy looking gothic architecture is amazing to see in person. I think I saw the hunchback… I will walk through the Eiffel tower and Louve either tomorrow or on my second stint here in Paris. Yesterday, I was busy resting by a fountain in this amazing park off of the Louve's main entrance.
The night bus here was something else packed and not the best for sleeping on, but ooh well got to see plenty of countryside. I am staying with a couple of different people in the next couple of days, Paul here in Paris is a nice guy and he is hosting 5 surfers now and we are scattered all over his place. Next I will be going to Caen and to visit the WWII memorial cemetery this weekend with what looks to be a great couple who live there.
Bastille day is turning out to be a dud it has rained like crazy the last couple of hours and while I was at the parade. They have way too much security for a military parade or parade in general. I could not really see much and then it rained. Tonight I think will be better we are planning on having a picnic in a park by the Eiffel Tower with other surfers and watch the fireworks and music.

Nik You should ask around & find the alley where the guillotine was first used. If I remember right, there is a really really old cafe near by, as well a neat wine shop opened by an American who has been in Paris for about 20 years.
sankey Glad you're still in good shape. Will you be there for the end of the Tour de France? Are you still thinking of working the vineyard? Stay safe 'sharkboy'.
Sharon A year ago, two of my grand-daughters visited family stationed in Brussels and then took a train to see Paris and the Eiffel Tower. Reading your adventure brings all the memories back. Makes me see too how small the world is becoming when young people can go so far. Keep going - I'm following along. Think of you often.
