It's nice to have 3 nights in one place. Gives us a bit more time to see the place and have a rest in between visiting.
Yesterday did a walking tour around Luang Prabang which used to ge the royal capital of Laos until 1975 when it became a communist country and the king abdicated (and was taken up north and never seen again)!
Strange to visit the royal palace which has now been turned into a museum and see things the way they had been left in 1975 including the Royal cars and some interesting presents from visiting dignitaries, Richard Nixon had given a present of some rock from the moon!
Visited a lot of Wats (temples) and in one we saw the Kings Daughter who still lives in the town.
The group walked up mount phoxi in the late afternoon to see the sunset but Sylvie wanted some time by the pool so we did it in the heat of the day!
Lots of French influence in the town including baguettes and boules. Had a lunch of Crepes and a papaya smoothies. Sylvie spent the journey back chatting to the driver in French.
Afternoon was by the pool then a nice evening meal but service was a bit slow so our visit to the night market started just as they were all starting to clear away. Did not stop Sylvie though, in 15 minutes we managed to buy from 4 stalls including doing some good natured bartering to get the price down ( got a light shade for £1.20 is that a good price?)
This morning we were out at 6:15am to see the monks walking the streets to collect food offerings which was a sight to see but all a bit surreal with all the tourists around. Round the corner one of our group spotted the monks putting the food given by tourists into a big bin?
Off to visit a local village and waterfall today going in 15min so need to get ready. Internet access flakey so not sure if I'll get another post from here.
