Wednesday 20th January
We woke up early morning, I did a meditation and phoned Nick then when I returned back to the van Lisa was flapping around over a giant spider she'd seen in the van. I wasn't sure how 'giant' it would be as I knew she was scared of spiders as much as I am, yet wasn't taking any chances so called over a nice Australian dad to get in our van and find it to get rid...I can confirm it was a beast of a spider and the man was laughing at our misfortune in having the little creature decide to invade our personal space.
We then decided to do the lighthouse walk so prepped with water we began strolling along the beach. Little did we realise, this nice walk was to turn into a bit of a treck and with us only in flip flops/bikinis it was funny going past everyone in trainers and sports gear to what we thought would be a leisurely walk. We were told it would take an hour and a half there and back and it took us an hour and a half just to get to the lighthouse - but then again we were stopping and enjoying the views. We even spotted a group of dolphins swimming past when we'd reached the top. Again, it was nice to have pleasant Australians around, I had an incident where I couldn't fill up my water bottle because the tap was broken so an elderly man held my bottle and told me to instead use my fingers with the water fountain spray to try and direct the water into the bottle. This was comedy in itself as Lisa on looked the pair of us trying to control the water out of the fountain, but the gent was persistent in making sure I was getting enough water on this hot day.
We decided to take the easy-route stroll back down avoiding up and down stairs and when we made it back to the camp I went to the beach and relaxed there for the afternoon. I had booked to have a tarot reading the day before so went to that at 5.30pm. The lady Rose was very nice and the half hour session was insightful but with nothing shocking (which I suppose is a good thing!) I met up with Lisa after at the Balcony and we looked at booking our next place of visit up before having the worst dinner we'd had yet - some horrendous Chinese ready meal in a cardboard box which tasted just like cardboard. We went out for a walk to see if there was anymore street artists or action but it was all very quiet compared to the night before so we went back to the campsite and got an early night.
Thursday 21st January
In the morning we checked out of our camp and said goodbye to Byron bay to head onto the Gold Coast, surfers paradise. It's fair to say we got pretty lost trying to leave Byron, and had an awkward moment of being misled by the satnav and driving into a cemetery, thankfully nobody was around mourning to see us in our giant travel wheels mobile looking like we were cruising sight seeing at the cemetery - we felt like it was one of those moments you would see in the series of the inbetweeners.
We eventually made it to the Gold
Coast just after lunch time and checked into our new camp site home the Main Beach Tourist Park. After locating a subway, we lay by the pool for a couple of hours before realising we had crossed a time zone and had gained an hour and are now 10 hours ahead of the U.K. instead of 11. We got ready for evening time pretty early and went to investigate the town centre. Hopping on a bus it cost us $5 each and it wasn't long after us wandering around that we were approached by people wanting to sell us tickets for a bar crawl run by 'Wicked' - a company Lisa had already looked at doing it with anyway. We booked to do the bar crawl for the Saturday night which was only $30 each and got us free entry to 5 places as well as a free drink in every place. We were also given a booklet that offered discounts on food and drink in the area and so used it to go to a sports bar and get a pizza and a drink for $8 each. We face timed Aimee back at home after dinner and then were both yawning so much (none of us had slept well again the night before) that decided to go back and watched an episode of the inbetweeners before going to sleep.
