Tuesday 19th January
I didn't sleep very well due to the heat but got up to a cloudy morning and went for a walk around the town centre, popping in at the hairdressers to see if we could get in. I managed to get an appointment for a trim at 12 at 'Edge' and then went back to the campsite, grabbed a towel and a book and went to lie on the beach for an hour.
Whilst I was lying on the beach on my own, I had a lovely surprise in opening my eyes to see a young boy (probably around 9 years old) holding out a pink rose to me. I sat up and looked at him when he confidently began a speech about how his youth club were doing random acts of kindness today and so as his, he'd chosen to give me this flower as a blessing. I was completely taken aback and thanked him, watched him totter away as everyone around me grinned at the total cuteness of the whole thing. What a magical place Byron bay is I thought as I twirled the flower around in my fingers thinking about the context I'd not long been reading in one of my Buddhism books.
I left the beach and met Lisa to walk to the hairdressers, had a trim and chatted away to the lady briefly (who also gave a great head massage during my wash) and relaxed with a peppermint tea. It was $80 which I felt was quite expensive but either way I was happy to have it tidied up as I've not had anything done with it (apart from a fringe cut with kitchen scissors in Cambodia) since last October. I went ahead of Lisa and got our lunch on the go, also booking in a tarot reading for the following day - something which Nick said he'd treat me to as an early valentines present despite his usual concerns of my being interested in an outsiders interpretation of my potential future.
After lunch I chilled at the beach for the afternoon and then Lisa met me to go for an early dinner. We went to a place that did fancy burgers and watched someone busking out the front. I can't remember the name of the place but we weren't overly impressed by the service...
Later on, we decided to take a walk to the beach and park where different sorts of entertainment were on. A young guy with a sort of Justin bieber appeal about him was singing on a guitar with speakers linked up and then there was people throwing fire and a guy making music out of a trolley and random house hold objects. We wondered around and noticed many odd people but still felt it was a beautiful place where families had brought their children out in their pyjamas late at night watching these talented locals under the stars. I again felt a heavy heart from missing my family, friends and Nick wishing they were all here to experience these new places with me.
