Hong Kong was our last stop in China and was quite a big different to the rest of the country. It´s a very modern and cool city and the view from the Kowloon island onto the skyscapers of Hong Kong island is amazing. While we were there, we stayed in Mongkok, which is on the Kowloon. The area around our hotel was packed on every single street with shops and neon and people - I really don´t thing there is anywhere like it in London or any other city! Compared to the rest of China it was quite expensive for clothes and things, so I just about managed to restrain myself :o)
We took a trip up to the highest point of Hong Kong Island, Victoria Peak, to admire the view of the city´s skyline and walking through the parks near the Peak. To get up and down to the viewpoint, we took a tram and going up, it was pretty much vertical! Rick got some good pictures I think!
I also managed to find a museum that I really liked in Hong Kong too!The Museum of Hong Kong was a bit like the Geraldine Experience in Tralee, but on a huge scale. The museum was full of life size models of jungles, prehistoric civilisation, Chinese festivals and a reconstruction of Hong Kong as it was shortly after the British took over. I stayed there for hours!
At night, Hong Kong was buzzing and they have a cool light & sound show with the skyscapers on Hong Kong island (it´s a bit hard to explain but you can see it in the blog picture!).
But definitely the highlight of Hong Kong was getting to meet up with Louise!! She made the trek into Hong Kong to meet up and we ended up having a lovely dinner in the main bar area on Hong Kong island. Thanks Louise!
