Woke this morning to another night of torrential rain, however just as I was checking the washing, right in front of my boxers on a tree was a snake! Just chillin like a villain he was. I woke Claire to show her, and later found that this was her first wild snake! My self on the other hand being raised in the outback by the tribal people dreadaj dreadaj had experienced many snakes and enjoyed eating then too. We took a couple of happy snaps and then informed Rylan who told us it was a pit viper, in which i informed him were a species if snake that had a heat sensing pit gland between their eyes (Attenborough eat you heart out) none the less he wanted to return it back to the jungle, so being the SA boy that he is he grabbed a twig, yes a twig and proceeded to try and catch the viper, needless to say the twig snapped and he was inevitably bitten on the finger. To his credit he was as cool as a cucumber and got a bigger, stronger twig and disposed of the snake back to his habitat and away from my boxers!
I went to check on Rylan who was being treated by a wee Malay lady who crushed up a clam shell and was patching him up with this paste. Impressive! It was at this point that I let him no that I was a nurse but it was his unlucky day as I only care when I'm getting paid! He said he was feeling fine although his hand was now swollen and his finger resembled a deep fried banana fritter. I started bandaging him up when i was applying the sling I went in to Jersey emergency staff nurse mode and told him that there is a 3 hour wait and that this wound was minor and probably could have been dealt with his GP instead of wasting my time! By the end of the day Mr Macho had the bandages and sling off and was working like nothing had happen when made me think............it must of been a python ;)
