2nd day here and although it rained continuously through out the night with the occasional ruptures of deafening thunder and constant display of sheet lightning the whole combination of being in a beach hut and involved in a tropical storm was one somewhat comforting and very romantic.
We started out day late today, catching up on some rest from yesterdays long and exhausting day of travelling (taxi + bus + plane + taxi + ferry + small boat = paradise! ).
So after a quick bite to eat we headed off with 4 Germans, an Aussie bird and Rylan for some snorkelling around the islands. Our first stop brought us to a local dive spot in which we were instructed to jump in and the boat will meet us! Not knowing exactly what the driver was talking about I jumped in (Claire opting to sit this one out) as soon as I dived in I knew what the driver was talking about the current was so ridiculously strong that I was flying past the coral reefs below so fast that it was difficult to take in what I was seeing. Below me was a scene of vibrant coloured coral reef with a display of hundreds of fish all darting in and around the complex of the coral metropolis. Before I had realised we must if drifted a few hundred yards with in a matter of minutes. Our next stop was a spot called Marine Park and it lived up to its name, as soon as we both jumped in we were greeted with a flurry of fish activity. In every direction were fish and I'm talking about only being a matter of inches separating us! In actual fact some fish found both our body jewellery some what appealing and before long the somewhat slightly painful bites from fish were experienced and with each nibble you were quickly reminded of the benefits from fishing with a lure, they couldn't get enough of the metal! After being inappropriately molestered by the marine life we continued snorkelling and got too some amazing marine life including many many different species of fish and coral but the highlight was defiantly seeing a sea turtle fly motionless under the water, we managed a couple if photos before this enormous but graceful beauty vanished within sight.
We retuned to Putani Beach to freshen up and enjoy out main meal of Red Snapper (grilled and baked), chicken curry and rice followed by a few sneaky glasses of orang utan rum with coke ( for medicinal purposes of course, apparently it's keeps the mozzies away, so Claire tells me!).
P.S we drank the bottle :)
