We boarded Aegean flight 350 (Airbus A321-200 Rego SX-DVZ) for the 5:30 am flight to Santorini. The Hotel Ava even provided breakfast for us at 3:15 am owing to the early departure. It was a very quick flight...as soon as we reached cruising altitude of 17000 feet it was time to commence our descent.
We were picked up by a taxi sent for us by Villa Renos where we arrived about 6:30am. It was too early to check in but we were able to leave our bags and go exploring. Before we left however, our host Petros provided us with coffee, jam filled Tarta, and apricots from his own tree.
Fira was very quiet at that time of the morning, very few guests were awake and the shopkeepers were just starting to open their shops. We didn't realise what a contrast there would be in a couple of hours when 2 cruise ships arrived and the place became a hubbub of cruise passengers trying to make the most of their short visits.
At 12 we we able to check in to our room and begin enjoying its fabulous location overlooking the caldera where we can see all the comings and goings of cruise ships and tenders. At the end of the day, we enjoyed our first Santorini Sunset from the balcony with a glass of wine. By the time the sun had finally set it was 9pm and we still had to go out to find a nice place for dinner.
