That's not exactly what I said when I left London 2012. More "I'm just going to have a final walk around the Olympic Park and then I'll probably head home". That's what I did and I got back in time to see the closing ceremony. I haven't worn my Games Maker since that night and I have to say I felt a bit weird dressed up as a Clydesider today. I think all of us in the depot felt a bit flat; the morning after the night before maybe.
Down at the Athletes' Village again and everyone wanted to get home. Number of trips to the airport which all went fine. All my passengers were pleasant and happy but I felt that they too were a bit flat. The smiles didn't seem quite so broad and there was a bit less ________ . I'm not sure what the word should be there; bounce? Zing? The bubbles had gone if you know what I mean. I guess they too were thinking about going home.
So if the key things were to;
1. get people from A to B
2. do it safely
3. don't bump into anyone or anything
4. be pleasant and smile a lot. And
5. always know where you're going
I reckon I scored 4 out of 5. That'll do for me. Never did understand the Glasgow roads. Reckon I could have been there a month of Sundays and I'd still be none the wiser.
Finally, I want to pass on my heartfelt thanks to everyone who made the whole trip possible. It really did mean a lot to me. Forgive me for picking out a couple of people in particular. Firstly my wife Sue who let me go and play for a few weeks to get it out of my system. And to my niece Gail for all of the many kindnesses. Including getting up at some crazy times to see me off.
That's it from Kenny Clydesider. Going home now. Over and out
