Evening all ….
First of all, a correction. Cheques have been flooding in for the potato tattie recipe. Now I've found out that's not what they're called. They're called tattie scones up here [and evidently potato cakes in England]. I'll need to go back to the printers for a correction so it might take a little longer than expected to send the recipes out. So don't worry if you don't hear from me for some months. And thanks again for your money.
Anyway, back to the Commonwealth Games. Who remembers Harry Enfield's "Tim-nice-but-dim" character? Those of you who do will have a pretty good idea of what I was like today. Not a sparkling performance [again] but I got through it without any major mishap or embarrassment.
Working from 6am to 4pm, they only went and got the bloody bikes out again. So whole chunks of Glasgow closed off once more. That made the satnav useless. And we know by now what a useless satnav means don't we? Precisely, an even more useless me. Could have been far worse though. I was at the Athletes' Village all day and - glory be - I could make it to the airport from there without any problem. I wouldn't say that the M74 and me are close friends but at least there's a bit of understanding between us now. Fortunately I get on well with the traffic marshal at the Village who was on today. So I slipped him a few quid and he only gave me airport jobs.
It seems like light years ago that I was there when the athletes were arriving before the Games started. And later tonight they're going to end. I'd be lying if I said I was sorry. It's been an experience but I can't wait to get home now.
But not quite there yet. One more shift tomorrow and I'm hoping that'll be a doddle.
I'll let you know ……..

Denise Sure you had lots of fun, Ken, but I can understand that you'll be glad to be back and I can't wait to see you to hear it all from the horses' mouth. Come home safe, we all missed you. X
