Considering I've been on the go since 915 last night I feel absolutely chipper. My actual shift was from 11pm to 9am and is the only full overnight one I'll do. But I really wouldn't mind doing another ….. best one so far. Everyone was pleasant, I didn't get lost and there was no traffic. There were about 15 of us there and basically we just provided a posh taxi service.
We just stayed at the depot until a job came in and then we were sent out in turn. Busy up to about 2am collecting people from restaurants etc and taking them back to their hotels. I got my first pin from some Botswana people who had a big appetite. I picked them up from a reception where they probably only served canapés. When they got in the car they said they wanted to be taken to the Hilton. But via a McDonalds, KFC or takeaway where they served chips. They were VERY insistent that they had to have chips. The first thing we spotted was a Chinese takeaway called Ka Ka Lok or something like that and in they went.
Then nothing from about 2am to 430am but unfortunately no chance of any sleep. So tea and telly. Then it all kicked off again right up to the end of the shift. I did three trips to the airport for people who were returning home. For them the Commonwealth Games was over. And in exactly a week's time, they'll be over for me. It'll be good to go back home; seems like I've been away for ages. But I'm going to miss everything up here. Despite the ups and downs, it's been an experience I wouldn't have wanted to miss.
Remember me saying a short time ago that I felt chipper? Sudden change. The tiredness is catching up with me now. Better go before I fall …… zzzzzzzzzzz
