Away we go...collected by a new tour guide, Dana( the coffee addict apparently!). There was also four Frenchies with us but luckily they were in the same age range and all smokers so all good. I was very tempted to mention the Italian victory in the Six Nations yesterday, but I'll use that ace card at a later date....Thierry Henry's handball was also another conversation I resisted from bringing up...
It seems that my can of Mortein is nowhere near enough protection from the mozzies here....Malaria is a HUGE problem in Kruger according to Dana and it's best to try and not get bitten at all...jaysus...1-2-3 Malaria he likes to call it; 1. Flu like symptoms for a couple of days, 2. Severe flu like symptoms for about a week and 3. RIP..I'll be snorting/drinking/rolling in the repellent later on....
En route to Kruger and with my paranoia levels hitting an all time high due to the shocking malaria stories Dana felt were appropriate to share,we passed through a small town called Belfast. I've never been to the city in Northern Ireland but I'm sure they are quite contrasting places...the town here consisted of two main streets full of run down buildings and dusty roads- maybe that's the same as up north back home, who am I to say otherwise...On to Blyderiver Canyon we go....the third biggest in the world ( nobody boasts about bronze medals do they??)
Pretty cool canyon in pretty hot weather-actually bloody roasting...34oC and 1,000,000% humidity! Didn't get out if the Jeep for too long, not just because of the weather but also a very large hissing sound coming from the bushes....'' It's probably a puff adder snake'', Dana said....that was enough for me to make a sharp exit. Why am I here??
