Got up early this morning and headed in to Washington DC. We started off with a group walking your around some of the main memorials. The first one we reached was the World War II memorial. This was a huge fountain, surrounded by 50 columns, each representing a different state. There was also a wall of stars, each star representing 10 soldiers who had lost their lives in the war.
Next we walked to the monument tower. This stands at over 500 feet and can be seen from most places around DC.
The Korean memorial was our next stop, this is a garden with statues of 19 different soldiers. The idea here is that wherever you stand around the garden you will always be in the eyeline of at least one soldier, signifying that someone always had your back.
After the Korean memorial we walked to the Lincoln memorial, this is a huge structure. At the top of several steps there is a large open chamber with columns around it on quite a roman style, within this chamber is a large statue of Abraham Lincoln.
We then walked across to the back if the White House and had pictures taken there, no sign of Obama though!
The group then split up and I went on a Hop on hop off bus tour of Washington DC. I saw many different things on the tour but got off at Arlington cemetery to walk around and see JFK's grave and I went into the Natural History Museum for a whistle stop tour.
In the evening we went back to our campsite, made stir-fry fir tea then sat around the campfire.

Heather Great info - I didn't know about the 19 soldiers, supposedly watching your back - what an inspired idea! Did you go into the Museums or National Archives? Loved them!
