We ventured into town which took around five minutes to walk to! - our hostel location is pretty great! We ended up walking into a huge mall, then stumbling on Parliament Hill - where we had intended on going one day anyway. Parliament Hill was beautiful and are apparently considered one of the most beautiful government buildings in the world. "The Hill" consists of the Senate, the House of Commons, the Library of Parliament, the Hall of Honour, the Peace Tower and the Memorial Chamber. The architect was very original and very different from our Parliament buildings back in London.
The views of the city and across the river to Montreal were great from Parliament Hill and I really enjoyed walking around that area; it was extremely pretty.
Right by Parliament Hill was Rideau canal where we saw the locks. This was interesting to see because it is the oldest continuosly operated canal in Canada and has also been designated a National Historical Site. There was also a building next to the canal that looked like a converted barn, where Amy had said it was the oldest building in Canada. It had been converted into a museum I think for the canal, but it was closing just as we were approaching.
Even though it was a really cold day today, me and Amy are holding out on wearing our ski coats, just so that we feel the benefit for December time as we know its going to be minus temperatures.
Had a lovely day today. I think we'll be extending our stay here in Ottawa as there's a few things we'd like to see and do and feel we'll need longer.
