Today we woke up at 3 am and left London via the Gatwick Express train. For some reason...I felt like crap (probably from the disgusting hostel) and I threw up on the train. What a great way to start my story, huh!?!
Our flight to Rome left London-Gatwick around 7 am and we all slept the entire way. When we arrived in Rome we had to take a bus and a train to our hostel. This hostel was very nice! The bathrooms were clean and we were only in a 6 person room. The two girls in our room were from California.
We paid 18 euros (about 25 bucks) to take a walking tour of Rome. The tour was 4 hours and was given by a cool guy from Canada. We saw the ruins, old city, Colloseum, and lots of other old stuff. Rome is a neat city! We had dinner at an excellent Italian restaurant last night! It was the 'typical' Italian restaurant....it was on a very narrow street with red checkered tableclothes and cute little tables outside. Kinda like from the movie Lady and the Tramp!
Tomorrow is Sunday...and we were planning on going to Vatican City...but it is closed on Sundays...so we are just going to see the outside of it and take pictures. Also we will see Trevi Fountain and hopefully go inside the Colloseum.
After that we will leave by Eurail (train) and head to Florence, Italy.
Pretty much all the money I have spent so far has been on transportation. We have to buy bus tickets, train tickets, metro tickets, and all kinds of other tickets. We eat very cheap and try to drink lots of water.
It has been fun so far, but I am looking forward to going to Oxford. This time of the trip is very chaotic and stressful...but it is fun to see everything!
Gotta go! Thanks for the messages everyone!
Love, Kelly
