Today we were in Rome, Italy. We started our morning off with a free breakfast in our hostel then we jumped on the train to Vatican City. Everyone told us that the Vatican was closed on Sundays, but we thought we would give it a shot still. We saw a bunch of people standing in a line outside of St. Peter's so we jumped in line, too. Turns out...the line was to get into the basillica. The inside of the building is totally breath-taking! We also sat down inside and joined in the Sunday Mass. After Mass we walked outside and there were thousands of people filling the square. Everyone was looking to the Pope's window...and at exactly noon the Pope gave a blessing to everyone! Yeah...it was in Latin...so we have no idea what he said...but was saw the Pope!
After Vatican City we took the train to the Trevi Fountain. We only had about 5 minutes there so we took a few pictures and left quickly! Then we raced to the train station to catch the train to Florence.
On the train we wrote postcards and charged our camera batteries. Real necessities! :)
We arrived in Florence around 5 pm and found our hostel. This hostel is pretty nice and we have free unlimited internet access and our room has a private bathroom. We went on a walking tour of Florence and met some nice people form Canada and Chicago....we all shared our stories of traveling and gave each other tips!
Finally we ended the night with an excellent Italian meal! Now I'm back at the hostel writing to all of you! :)
I hope to hear from you soon!
