Well......................................remember how I said we were going to the pub for a couple of drinks last night? Well it ended up being quite a big night and we didn't get home until 5 am!!!! We decided not to bother going to bed because we had to get up at 6am anyway to catch the treain. Instead, we had some toast and tea and a shower to refresh ourselves. I met our other room mate again, Daisy from England. She was up early too as she was catching the same train which was nice.
The bus collected us at 7am and took us to Christchurch train station - we were not in a good way atall!!!! We were pretty gutted as the train journey was supposed to be one of the most scenic train journeys in the world and all we wanted to do was sleep!
We all had allocated seats so we were all in different carriages unfortunately. The train started and began its 4 and a half hour journey. The train driver was ace, he told us about all of the scenery and warned us when we would need our cameras out for a nice photo. I managed to catch little snoozes in between the train driver speaking which was ace. At times I didn't want to sleep though as the scenery was absolutely stunning. New Zealand is such a gorgeous place!! The scenery was out of this world. One minute you saw snow capped alps and the next a crystal clear lake. Just magnificent!
Daisy managed to come down to my carriage and sit beside me as there were plenty of free seats. We found out that we are pretty much doing the same trip as each other and at the same times!
We arrived at Greymouth and the four of us checked into the YHA, what a lovely hostel. It's more like an old fashioned guest house and we managed to get a dorm just for the four of us. We visited Mc'donalds before heading for a siesta, perfect!
It's now time for tea, so we are going to head into the village for some food and guess what.....a wee drink! This time it will just be a wee one as we are up for the bus to Franz Josef at 7am tomorrow! Promise!
